They performed three songs today: "Here I Go Again," "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" and "Don't Stop Believin'." I may have missed a song or two since I was walking towards FCP when I heard "Here I Go Again." Afterwards, Yvan and Elicia signed autographs.
I was surprised that the cast didn't wear Rock of Ages t-shirts during their performance. I understand not being in costume, but it would have helped identify who they were. I heard a few people asking who they were. Actually, I heard a a few laughs from people watching too. Apparently, the Financial District crowd wasn't overly impressed... as the crowd wasn't very large.
Has anyone seen the show in the past few weeks? What's the capacity like? Mirvish is discounting 25% and Travelzoo is discounting 50% through July. Doesn't seem ideal to me.
A better idea, indeed. But were there signs saying who they were? Were they in shirts? Was there any indication of who they were and why they were singing these songs?
I won tickets at the friday lottery, i won floor seats but asked if i could change for box seats i always wanted to sit there its a bit obstucted but it was a very good show. Rock of Ages will have a healthy run at the Royal Alex. i would give this show **** out of 4. There was about 45 there for the lottery.
Will it have a healthy run? How is it selling? I heard it's not selling as well as hoped. Haven't checked in on the road grosses in a while though so I have no clue.
-Mirvish doesn't report grosses -First Canadian Place has been a standard stop on the promotional tour for almost all long running shows for the last 10 years.
It may be standard, but that doesn't mean its GOOD. Many presenters still use methods they used years ago because they worked... but they don't always work for EVERY show.
Mirvish doesn't post grosses for their resident productions (I mean why would they?) but all American Equity tours that Mirvish presents posts their grosses in Variety.
On CP24 yesterday the crawler on the bottom said ROA to Sept 5. It's not closing is it? I've heard sales aren't good but I hope it runs at least until the New Year.
Looks like Aaron Walpole will be leaving the production early next year (if it is still playing) as he has been cast in Jesus Christ Superstar at Stratford.
Also I'm hearing there will be another minor cast change in the upcoming weeks. JCS @ Stratford
Yeah, heard this today also. It seems strange that they are closing it after only 8 months. I guess maybe with Billy Elliot running as an extended/sit-down production they need the theatre space for the other shows this season? Just seems strange to not even run a year.
I was surprised to hear about this. How long did WE WILL ROCK YOU run for? It felt like it was here forever. I thought ROCK OF AGES was such a better show, so I thought it'd stick around...
Do you think they may move it to the Panasonic Theatre?
Toronto, ON (October 20) - Due to popular demand, Toronto’s best party, ROCK OF AGES, will extend its stay in Toronto for the third and last time. A new block of tickets is now on sale through January 2, 2011. ROCK OF AGES had its Canadian Premiere on Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at which time it blew the roof off the historic Royal Alexandra Theatre.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks." Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
After it closes January 2nd, will the production move to another city? Tour? Or is this the end?
