Has anyone seen it and liked it? The few people I know that have seen it said they hated it. I'm going to see it August 17th and I was just wondering if anyone can give me their personal review? Thanks!

I've seen it 3 times. It's not a great book show by any means by its FUN. If you are looking for a fun time and want to hear some Awesome 80's music GO you will not be disappointed.

I really liked the show, and I hate non-Broadway music. The music just works with the book so well that you think it's just a normal Broadway musical. Then again, when I saw it, I knew no more than five of it's songs. I thought it was very funny, and as they say at the beginning, "Nothing but a good time".

I loved it. It's no masterpiece, but it is great, great fun. Good night out.

if you are already going to see it why do you care what anyone else thinks of it?
That makes no sense.

I have seen it twice and I love it. It's a real feel-good show. The cast is incredibly talented and I felt that I got my money's worth when I saw it (and I payed full price the first time)! I was skeptical of the show until I heard the cast recording and then I was hooked!
Hope you have fun!

Like others have said, it's TONS of fun but it isn't going to be considered a classic masterpiece lol The cast was great and the show was literally a great time from start to finish. I'm interested to know why your friends hated it? I suppose if you loathe the 80's and find bands like Journey cheesy and lame, you would probably hate it. (But why see it in the first place then lol)

Wicked Tour (2/26/08); Wicked Bway (7/1/08); HAIR (7/1/09); Rock of Ages (7/2/09); Wicked Bway (7/3/09); Mary Poppins Tour (8/2/09); Wicked Tour (11/18/09); Wicked Tour (12/5/09)

Have fun at the show! The 'orchestra' is GREAT fun. There is humor, romance, music and enough drama to tie it together. I even enjoyed the Journey songs!

It's a hoot. It's probably the worst show ever, but it knows it is and just goes for fun, fun, fun. For those of us who love 80's music and power ballads, it was a great night out.

I love '80s music and power ballads. Half the songs used in the show are in regular rotation on my iPod.

I hated ROCK OF AGES. I found it stupid, unfunny, offensive, insulting, and degrading.

For what it's worth. It's not just people who hate the music who don't like this show.

I think the majority of people who hate the show are bitchy 9 to 5 fans (AKA- Wicked fans, since they are one in the same)who were pissed that it got nominated over 9 to 5 in many catagories at the Tony's. Even though there is NO evidance the says 9 to 5 was even close to a nomination in any catagory.

I love the show. Definitely not a life changing experience, but it is tons of fun. Plus, Wesley Taylor and James Carpinello are hilarious in the show.

I don't know if that was aimed at me, but I am definitely not a "bitchy 9 to 5 fan." I personally don't think ROA deserved most of its nominations, but not because I felt another show in particular was more deserving.

Some people just don't like it. Everyone feels like they have to justify it, saying, "Oh, they only hated the show because they don't like that style of music," or, "They only hated the show because they wanted 9 to 5 win." Is it really that hard to believe that some people just don't like ROCK OF AGES?

No, it wasn't. It was just a general statment. I didn't even see your post before I replied. The only people I have heard bash the show to no end were 9 to 5 fans. From the OP's user name I would assume that they were talking to Wicked fans who are honestly 9 to 5's biggest fans so they would be getting a slanted view point.

Like many others have said, it's definitely an enjoyable show. If you go in expecting great theatre, you'll leave unimpressed. But the show is the epitome of the word fun and an absolute blast filled with rock and roll like no other. And the experience is unlike any other on Broadway. The serve beer up and down the aisles during the show! It's the closest some of us will get to going to a Journey concert back in the 80s.

If you expect anything other than what the show tells you it's going to provide you (and personally, I think this goes for ANY show for that matter) then you are to blame for whatever bad time you have. ROA IS silly and in my opinion the funniest show on Broadway right now... it IS clever in it's execution... but the creators make no bones about the fact that they are not trying to make Shakespeare out of Whitesnake and Bon Jovi tunes. To judge it (or any art) past what it is trying to achieve is retarded. Personally, I am more offended when shows TRY so desperately to be deep and meaningful and then fall short of that mark. Frankly, ROA hits exactly the bullseye it was aiming for so kudos to them.

Possibly the most fun I ever had watching a Broadway musical. Just sit back and enjoy the ride.

I had zero interest in seeing ROA, but one day decided to try the lottery, and won 2 front row seats ... and I had an absolute blast! Great talent, great music, and just a lot of fun.
