This is something that has always bugged me. Who played Riff at the Tonys in 2001? And if it's not Raul, is there a reason why he didn't perform?
I'm dying for a factual explanation!
I could be wrong here but I think Raul had already left the show the month before. The Tonys were in June and he departed mid-May. Not that that always stops people from coming back for a performance, but still. On the site linked below it has Mark Price listed, who I know at least understudied for the role. But that definitely did not look like Raul in the video.

You are right. Raul had left the show around May 24/25 to go into "Tick, Tick...Boom" He was replaced by Mark Price who performed on the Tony Awards that year. Mark Price performed the role until September 2001.

Raul gave a kick-ass Time Warp, tool. Too bad he wasn't on the Tony Telecast.
I wish he was on the broadcast as well, but I'm so very glad he did tick, tick...Boom! Saw him in the show that summer and to this day, I thought it was his best performance on stage.
