This has little to do with AF love or hate
I would argue that Nathan Lane is the most well-known male actor that makes his living consistently from the theater right now. The only person I could think of that maybe is more well-known is Stokes.
No one is saying he's Tom Cruise, but he's certainly recognizable to theatergoers.

Yes, he has done a musical. He played the lead in Ahrens & Flaherty's A MAN OF NO IMPORTANCE at Lincoln Center. He has quite a nice voice.
I've never heard of him, but then again I don't watch Cheers or West Wing.
He's only been one of the best actors around for about 30 years. Watch and educate your smug, ignorant self:

Roger Rees in Waiting for Godot, also with Ian McKellan

And (can't find any video but)he was brilliant as Scrooge's nephew in George C. Scott's TV version of A Christmas Carol.

I fail to see how not watching Cheers or The West Wing and not recognizing his name (despite recognizing his face) makes me smug and ignorant, but I'll definitely catch them at my next opportunity.
Thanks for the clips, though, he's fantastic!

Reagrdless of the various arguments about how famous / how much of a box office draw he is, I'm very happy to read bwaylvsong's last comment about Roger Rees - he is indeed a fantastic actor.
I first saw him in a UK television broadcast of Nicholas Nickleby when I was teenager, then saw him in an RSC production of Hamlet in Stratford-on-Avon and only this year I had the pleasure & privilege of seeing him back on the London stage in Waiting For Godot. He has a mesmerising stage presence and this casting announcement has made The Addams Family a definite must-see for me if I'm in NYC at the right time.
First, I am glad they are anticipating the show will go on after Nathan leaves.
Sedcond, I am glad that Bebe will continue on.
