Oh yeah, and every female role in Pacific Overtures save the Shogun's mother. (and I'm guessing that role also has been played by a female in some regional productions)

I remember that thread, MB.

"If this is going to be a Christian nation that doesn't help the poor, either we have to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we've got to acknowledge that He commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition and then admit that we just don't want to do it." -Stephen Colbert

"Gavroche in Les Miserables"

Jason Tam played Young Eponine on occasion in LES MIZ on Broadway in the mid-'90s.

"Eva Péron in EVITA"

You have the acute accent on the wrong letter. It should be Perón.

Salve, Regina, Mater misericordiae
Vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra
Salve, Salve Regina
Ad te clamamus exsules filii Eva
Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes
O clemens O pia

When Kenneth Branagh's Shakespeare company toured the U.S. in the 1980's, his then-wife Emma Thompson played the Fool in King Lear.

Other Shakespeare roles played by both sexes include Ariel in The Tempest and Puck in Midsummer Nights Dream.

It's also become commonplace to have Lady Bracknell in The Importance of Being Earnest played by a man. Updated On: 8/3/10 at 01:24 PM
