Apparently the famous Roseanne (big lady - remember her?) was the Wicked Witch of the West in a production of Wizard of Oz. Man, I love her!! SHE-DEVIL is one of my favourite movies!!! Who has a video of this?? Who has been lucky enough to experience it? I want to dig her out, wherever she is, and put her in one of my shows
She originated the part of the Wicked Witch for the Madison Square Garden production. When they came back and did the show again for the second year she was replaced by Eartha Kitt and that is why Eartha Kitt is on the recording singing the Jitterbug. In fact the Jitterbug didn't get put in until they wanted to give Eartha Kitt something to sing. Roseanne's witch was numberless. There is some footage of Roseanne's performance in her E! True Hollywood Story if you ever happen to catch it on a rerun ... some footage of her as Ms. Gultch, flying on the broom, melting and bow pictures.
I also have a one hour news special for when the show was in LA. JoAnne Worly was playing the witch by that point but Judith McCally who played Glinda told a story about how when she would say "Be gone you have no power here." Roseanne would walk up to her and say "Talk to the hand girl friend!"

I LOVE ROSEANNE!!!
SHE IS LARGER THAN LIFE!!!!
In She-Devil, when she blew up the house, I knew I wanted to be crazy and different - and larger-than-life - for the rest of my life. She is an inspiration to me... along with Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman and a bit of Bette Midler
I just watched a roseanne double take on nick at night :)

I saw Roseanne as Miss Gultch/The Wicked Witch:
I was young when I saw it but as I recall, I loved her. Many people didnt though. Its true, she was numberless. The Jitterbug wasnt even in the production I saw (which is a shame, cuz its such a cool song). She was very funny if I remember. Some people dont like seeing The Witch as funny, I however love it. There are only 2 characters u can really make funny, the Lion and the Witch. I loved the production very much. Im just a huge Oz fan lol

Eartha Kitt was by FAR the best Witch to be seen in the MSG staging and tour. Roseanne was a harsh, one note screeching witch.
brava to then 15 year old Jessica Grove for not breaking when roseanne was constantly doing all in her power to make Jess lose it onstage.
