I just had a thought... wouldn't it be great to see Rosie O'Donnell play Miss Hannigan somewhere? Any thoughts?
Hugs,
Greg
Nope
Sure, as long as they cut all her songs.
Given that she currently has a 7-figure contract with THE VIEW, and that she hasn't been well-received as a musical theater actress in the past, I'd say she has a better chance at promoting or even producing a musical production rather than starring in it.
I always thought about that, too. She definitely is qualified looks-wise.
Thread-jack, but she gave the entire audience of The View tickets to see Grey Gardens today! How cool is that?
The woman got great reviews in Fiddler. I think she would be swell.
I'd go see her way before that kathy lee Freak.

Alene Robertson owns the role. She is hilarious!
well Alene has been replaced.
Sucks to be her.
I hope they had to pay her out.
I wish I could have seen Nell Carter in the 97 revival. I've often wondered what the then new song, "You Make Me Happy", sounded like. it's a shame that no one has ever recorded it. and now no one has recorded the other new song for this revival either. shame.

Alene had a brain aneurysm and fell into a coma. So no, I don't think they had to "pay her out".

I LOVE Rosie and I have loved every part on broadway she has done in the past (Seussical, Grease, and FIddler) and I think she would be a terrific Hannigan!
But I think that Andrea Martin would be a better one! :)

Gee, thanks for the insult. I was defending Ms. Robertson because I didn't appreciate the nature of CurtainPullDowner's post and the insinuation that she had left the tour for reasons of having to be "paid off".
She had been initially replaced on the ANNIE tour when she suffered the aneurysm, which was the point I was trying to make. I am a big fan of Ms. Robertson, and there was no reason to attack me.

Well, I tried to post, but since Rob is not paying his bills, there is a delay.
I Wanna Apologize for misreading Wanna's post!
I did not know that
and I wish Alene well
I thought they just went with a name
I wish She was going MSG
What about Andrea McArdle playing the role?
THAT would be a scream!

^ Agreed!
I don't think Rosie would be a good choice. She's great with dry wit. Her style of humor is based on minimal expression and physicality. It's completely deadpan and it works. But it is the complete OPPOSITE of the character of Miss Hannigan, who is over-the-top bordeline slapstick, which is why Dorothy Loudon won the Tony for it. Her performance was absolutely maniacal. Kathy Bates gave a more controlled and reserved performance in the television movie, which is why it comes off so flat. The role really requires someone who will play Miss Hannigan as someone who is totally off her rocker both vocally and physically. It's a wonderful role for any actor who is not afraid to hold back.
I saw Carter. She was horrible. She played it with absolutely no humor at all - her Hannigan was just a mean drunk. The tour of that production had Sally Struthers, and apparently she was fantastic.
