Hello all,

I am currently on Rosie's rfamily cruise and it's going great so far. I'll give a full report when I return. Most of the cast of Taboo is here and they have been singing at different times. Liz and Euan together(and solo) are fabulous!

Lots of great shows and things happening.

Don't know if any other board members here are on the cruise with me right now but I'm having a great time(although my arms
are starting hurt from two hours of kayaking in Key West today!)

Rosie showed a two hour movie of the making of Taboo tonight and it was great. It showed the entire process from beginning to end(including the press coverage of Raul Esparza's walking out, her trial, etc.) and then she answered questions afterward.

I've also enjoyed Christine Ebersole(classy Broadway lady), Judy Gold(hysterical) and all the other fabulous people that are here.

Rosie also gave away an entire package of goodies to see "Wicked". It just so happened that I am wearing my "Wicked" t-shirt today. The person who won is from MA and she's going to fly him to NY to see it.

She's giving away free stuff everyday. Each night there is something new in my room.

Anyway, I've gotta get some sleep as tomorrow is another big day!

Bye for now!

I had no idea that Rosie was having a cruise. How did you find out about this. I love her. Well, have a great time (it sounds like you arere: Rosie's Cruise and the Cast of Taboo

What is your dream role?
My dream role would be to be myself. To be performing at the Hollywood Bowl and to have an audience there just to see me, as Stephanie. They are there because they like what I do as a singer, an artist and a person (the last being the most important). I enjoy escaping and portraying other characters, but to be accepted and wanted as yourself... that's amazing! --Stephanie J. Block Just one of the many reasons I admire and respect Stephanie!!

the cruise is really supposed to be about gay adoption and have gay and straight families come on the cruise.
Then she added the Broadway stars. I think that's cool and I would DIE to be on the cruise with the people from Taboo (esp. Euan..) and Julia Murney etc. but I think it's more of an informative thing and I think that's awesome.

Actually, it's a new business venture that caters directly to gay and lesbian families (r. family vacations, I believe it's called).

It fills the ever-growing need to provide tailored vacations to the gay and lesbian community that are also family friendly.

Just the THOUGHT of BestofBroadway in a big boat full of queers running around calling everything "amazing," man, it just makes my day. If only the cast of Thoroughly Modern Millie were there!

I'm glad to hear a mid-cruise report. I read Jeffrey Carlson and Cary Shields did some killer karaoke the first night. Not quite ready to bat for the other team but I sure would have liked to be there! No family either. Don't qualify on any count. Except lovin' those Taboo boyz and gurls!

Thanks for the update, BroadwayBest. Wish I were along with you all. I know I'm not the only one. :) I already have a major vacation planned in a couple of weeks for this year. It has been in the works since last year. Couldn't swing it all. Been thinking about the Rosie cruise off & on all week. Anything new to tell us?

Gay Cruise Meets Protest in Bahamas

Fri Jul 16, 9:08 PM ET

NASSAU, Bahamas - Passengers on a gay cruise were greeted by more than 100 protesters as they stepped off their chartered ship Friday in the Bahamas.

The protesters, led by Christian pastors, gathered in a square in front of the cruise terminal and chanted, "Gay Ways are Not God's Ways!"

Cruise organizers said former talk show host Rosie O'Donnell, who promoted the voyage, was aboard the Norwegian Cruise Line ship Norwegian Dawn. But she wasn't seen among those who disembarked.

Gregg Kominsky, a founder of cruise organizer R Family Vacations, said the passengers - 1,150 adults and 450 children - had come to have fun and that on previous trips he found most Bahamians friendly and welcoming. "We are not really here to make a statement," he said.

As the first passengers stepped out, shouting protesters pressed to within a few feet of them. Police stepped in to move demonstrators back. There were no arrests.

The U.S. Embassy issued a statement Thursday saying the mostly American passengers deserved the right to visit in peace.

Some passers-by said they disagreed with protesters. "I don't have a problem with gay people coming to the Bahamas," resident DeAndre Rahming said.

#16Cruise Update -Friday night(actually it's now Sat. Morning)
Posted: 7/17/04 at 2:14am

Hello all,

All I can tell you is I'm going to need to sleep for a week when I get home!!

Jose - we had a great time in Key West and people were generally very nice. Some friends did tell me that a lot of drunken people on the Island were making stupid comments. I'm hoping they were all tourists though!

The private Island was great on Thursday and we spent the day at the beach having a big barbecue. I spent way too much time in the sun and now look like the lobster I have eaten!

There has been so much to do between the informative lectures and entertaintment, the giveaways(and a bit of the casino) no one has had time to sleep! Comedienne Judy Gold performed Thursday night and was her usual hysterical self.

Friday was a bit more challenging in Nassau, Bahamas. I'm sure it's been all over the news about the locals not wanting gays and lesbians on shore. There was one church protest group and the locals for the most part were obnoxious except for some of the key shop keepers.

HBO is filming the whole thing and I told them I'd be happy to return the items I had just spent almost $2,000 buying....since the locals said they didn't want our money.
The shopkeepers response was, oh no, we Do want your money! I said that if they could only have the good fortune of seeing all
these kids who would never have had the opportunity of enjoying the sun, the pools, the beach, the kids area, etc. and how happy they were with their parents, making new friends, etc., they might think twice.

I got back to the ship alive and still exhausted but no time for sleep. Great lectures from Elizabeth Birch, Judy Weider and Malcom X's daughter Ms. Shabazz.

The panel of teenagers speaking about their gay and lesbian parents brought me to tears but I won't go into that now...

And then we were treated to the wonderful comedy of Joy Behar.
Her stand-up routine is great.

Rosie's intros for each comedian have been unbelievably hysterical. She really should go back into stand-up.

The cast of Taboo sang some solos at one of the clubs on board but unfortunately I couldn't get there until they were just finished.

Saturday is Broadway Belters night hosted by Seth Rudetsky so it should be a lot of fun. Everyone is participating.

I have to say, this has been the most memorable, emotional and fun experience I have had in a while. Everyone is so well-behaved and just having a good time enjoying this historic event that I don't think I'll take another straight cruise!! There aren't any bar-room brawls or falling down drunks. Everyone is nice to each other, gives you a smile whether they know you or not, etc. And the cruise staff has been excellent. They're having as much fun as we are as they hang out each night at the shows and in the dance club with us.

Well, that's it for now.

I'll keep you posted.

BwayBest,

Loud drunks in Key West? I don't believe it! Cruise Update -Friday night(actually it's now Sat. Morning)

When I was growing up most of the drunks wandering around town were sailors and marines on shore leave. Now that the Navy and other armed force branches have basically pulled out I'm told that the drunks these days are nearly always some tourists, especially those of college age, pretending to be Hemingway on a spree.

For decades Key West has been a welcoming home to many folks, whether celebrated or not, of varying sexual pursuations seeking an easy, relaxed and peaceful alternative life style. It's the Conchs (anyone born on the island) who initially created that atmosphere and have continued to maintain it over the years. It's a beautiful island of welcoming people and was a wonderful place to be born and raised.

Good to read your updates. Happy Sailing!
