I was curious if anyone has seen this. If so, does anyone have any thoughts as to whether this is a good show to bring someone who is new to straight plays. Or is it a good show to go to period? Much appreciate the help.
I enjoyed it for the acting. The script/production was quite good and took an inventive approach in presentation, but it got a bit preachy at times. Its quite light even for the subject matter. I don't think you can bin all straight plays in to one category. It all depends on what kind of shows you like, regardless of if you are just getting into straight plays or not.

If it's the first time someone is seeing ANY play, absolutely do not take them to DISTRACTED.

I loved it. I found the subject matter pretty interesting and Nixon gives a tremendous performance. It's one of the few shows I've seen where the set (including various projections) actually helps illustrate the show's idea of modern day mile-a-minute thinking. Although it isn't the best representation out there for a straight play, I think it would be great to introduce someone to newer material. A lot of people still think theater is limited to musicals and stuffy old plays revived now and again with varying degrees of success (these same individuals often forget the fact that two of the major Oscar contenders this past year were based on new plays, but oh well), so it is nice to see a show like Distracted come along every now and then with this touching, quirky story and truly marvelous cast.

Oooh, my daughter and I see a lot of plays and were really bored in Distracted. As good an actress as Cynthia Nixon is, it gets preachy, and as the mother of an ADD kid, it broke no new ground for me. You can google the reviews, which were mixed as well. There's so many wonderful shows out there right now, you can do a LOT better than Distracted!
Saw it.
Loved it.
One of my favorite play's of the season so-far.

I have some cheap tickets for next weekend...I'm looking forward to seeing it. Hopefully it will be enjoyable.
Saw today's matinee - thought it was a terrific play in a solid production, with a standout performance from Cynthia Nixon.
I saw the show on Friday night and really enjoyed it. The set and sound design were superb and I thought Rick Holmes gave a great performance as the father.
