I'd like to see who they bring on set for the role of the beggar woman. Not an easy part to play!

I could actually see Toni Collette as the beggar woman, and Meryl as Lovett

if crowe can't sing it, why don't they just get marni nixon to dub it?

lol
Q: Is Lansbury too old to play the Beggar Woman, or would you say she's SUPPOSED to be a bit older than Sweeneym even considering the spoiler stuff.

"I just hope Nathan Lane stays far away from this one. I want this movie to be good."
LOL
Well, since Nathan Lane always plays Nathan Lane, hopefully we won't see him in the movie, as none of the characters in "Sweeney Todd" resemble him in any way. Let's hope the casting people will also see it that way.

What about Pizarelli (whatever the characters name is. Sorry Pab!) Man of the "miracle" elixers. Who could play him?

In regards to Streep's and Crowe's age difference....I thought that Lansbury looked older than Cariou, and have kinda got the impression that Sweeney Todd is a bit younger than Mrs. Lovett....if not, well that what make-up artist are there for, and you can make someone look older much easier than look younger!!!

Actually I think Liv Tyler should be Toby and Ben Aflack should be Sweeney.
You saw Jersey Girl, didn't you? I was floored when I saw the first Sweeney Todd reference...so you can imagine my shock when they were actually going to perform a song from it in Benifer's fantasy child's talent show. I loved the snark on ALW in favor of Sondheim in that movie.

Streep and Crowe are Fine with me
She gets Top Billing and I don't like Him
But if helps get this made I will gladly not like him in this
Toni as the BeggerWoman YES!
she scared the pants off me in WILD PARTY
my Perfect Anthony and Joanna are
Michael Arden and Anne Hathaway
Right Ages and THEY can SING IT
Fer Fun: Josh Groban as Pirelli
a classy entrance to the movies fer him
of course none of them is English
and there are many Fine Musical Actors in or around London
Imelda was Amazing in INTO THE WOODS and so was Julie
Let's just all Hope this gets done soon and well
Keep up the Chatter!
and a Child as Tobias is chillin

I'd make Streep the beggarwoman. I can't see her as Mrs Lovett. What no response to Julie Walters as Mrs Lovett? She's perfect.

"Classical singers work for YEARS perfecting their sound."
Really it's the other way around. Classical singers are wooden and not trained in the art of movement. They are taught to stand and sing.. It is far easier to get a natural performer and singer to go "Classical" and not have to be worried as to how to move thier arms without looking like Robie Robot!

So you're saying that classical singing is easy? That in fact, it's pointless spending up to 8 years minium training a voice, because you can teach russell crowe to sing the same in 6 months?
Russell Crowe can sing....just not well, or on key.
Wasn't Kelsey Grammar considered for Sweeny at one stage? What happened to that?

Kelsey Grammer played Sweeney with Christine Baranski at REPRISE! in Los Angeles about five or six years ago. He wasn't great, and had some problems with the score, but admittedly, the REPRISE productions are thrown together with very little rehearsal time, so perhaps with time he would have really grown into the role.

"Jennifer Saunders would be PERFECT for the Beggar Woman...and Joanna Lumley would be PERFECT for Mrs. Lovett!!!"
Actually, Joanna Lumley has already played Mrs. Lovett, in a non-musical film version of Sweeney Todd from a few years ago. I believe Campbell Scott played Sweeney...

And again this will be a very distressing set to be on. Crowe is a Diva extreme.
