I have the sinking feeling she won't go through with it, but there's no harm in trying. She has yet to get up the courage to try out for high school productions and when faced with doing a solo with the school accapella group of a song she chose herself, she backed out about a week before the concert.
I think she has the skill, but she needs to develop some intestinal fortitude and I can encourage her only so much. Otherwise, her dreams will remain just that.
I also have a 17-year-old son, to whom most musicals are kryptonite.:)
Also, when you basically have no resume, what do you do--give them a sheet of paper with name, rank, serial number? She's taking theatre classes in high school, played clarinet in the school band for five years and was part of an accapella group last year (a class for credit that performed at concerts), but that's it...

The song choice is fine. I definatley agree with what everyone's been saying: they're looking for someone who can play 16 and someone who is rediculously tallented. The cast of Spring Awakening is phenomenal, including everyone who left and all of the understudies. They're looking for very tallented kids.
This should be the case with every show, but sadly, there are so many sucky casts out there...

At this point in time, she's sounding like she wants to do it. Has a song called "Jasey Rae" by All Time Low in mind, but told her to think of others we might actually be able to find sheet music for.
I realize all auditions are unique and different, but could anyone with any expereince or knowledge give me an idea of what she should expect...as in time frame of how long she might be there, how much they're allowed to sing..things along that line.
Thanks.

Posted: 3/12/08 at 12:32pmWell, what time does it end? I need to be finished by 6ish, and I'm planning to get there an hour early. Do I need to get there even earlier to ensure I'll be done by 6?

Thanks for your help, LePetitFromage.
My son will be with us and bored out of his skull but he's also old enough and familiar enough with the Times Sqaure area to waste time efficiently. And we'll all have cell phones.
If my daughter doesn't change her mind before then (which is a distinct possibility), we're planning on getting there around 10.

I so want my daughter to sing Regina Spektor. She was supposed to solo "On The Radio" in accapella class last year but chickened out.
I'm no expert, but I think it would be perfect.

Posted: 3/15/08 at 7:08pmI went to the Boston one today. Though I didn't even get a side, it was still a positive experience. My friend got called back for Ilse, though! If you have any questions, ask here!

"How many people were there?"
About 200
"i plan on singing hey jude. think its a good chioce?"
Yes, they even have the music for it there.
"I'm not sure which part I'll be going for...what do you guys think?!"
You look a lot like one of the guys I saw get a callback, so that's a plus.

Thanks, guys!
I hope I get far into the process. I had a couple friends go far, 3 callbacks and flown into NY, but we'll see.
Bwaylvsong, do you know what part that guy got a callback for?
Oh...and I'm a baritenor, I can sing most of the score...so we'll see how things work out!
