I am going with John Mayer "Why Georgia" Do you think this is a good song choice? For SA. I am going to the open call on April 13th 2008. If i am turning 22 would i still have a shot at getting in? PM me with your answers or post. Thanx

It's more about how you look and what age you can believably play, not how old you actually are. I know 19-year-olds who look like 30 and 23-year-olds who look 16.

I'm trying to choose between the following songs...
- Bridge Over Troubled Water
- You've Got A Friend
- Imagine
- Let The River Run
- With A Little Help From My Friends
Which one (or two) do you think would be most appropriate for SA?

Someone told me they are looking for a type of person.
I was looking into going, but apparently they are looking for alternative looking rocker-types with nice bodies.
Sadly, I don't fit the formula.
I want to try and go, but dont want to go and then have them go: "Oh, sorry, Fatkid, please leave." or a nicer-sugar coated verison of that.

I doubt it, Clumsy, since most of the cast does not fit that description. The only people who I heard were typed out last open call were ones who looked too old (even if they were 17) or too "ethnic" (even if they were the same ethnicity as some cast members). I know I look about 13-14 ,though I'm 18, and am white as can be, so I'm not worried about that.
Thanks, LePetiteFromage.

I'm not trying to be mean but I don't think they are looking for a specific weight for a role ( e.g. Brian Charles Johnson).
I am a little on the heavier side and about his size and weight.
I'll be shooting for that role.
Not only do we have the same body like features, but I have the same range for Otto.
I'm excited; I'm going into the audition for the experience and if something comes from it then great!
Can anyone recommend a good Spring Awakening song for a tenor?

Zeitoujo: I am in the same boat as you.
I wanna go now just for the experience. I did the same for American Idol and that was fun.
I just dont wanna go and feel like I wasted my time for them to say they arent looking for a Brian Charles Johnson type. A person I know told me they were looking for more fit-built type people, but whatever. I am most likely going to just say screw it and go. :)
bwaylvsong: Hm. That sounds encouraging.
I look like I'm tweleve, but I'm on the tall end, but I look tweleve.

Posted: 3/11/08 at 8:24amI'm thinking of sending in a video audition, that way I won't waste a bunch of money flying to NYC and not getting a callback or get typed out. I don't really have an alternative rock voice-but Lea Michele doesn't either, and I would probably go for Wendla.

Posted: 3/11/08 at 8:26amI think that the casting directors for Spring Awakening are looking for diversity. Just look within the cast: you have Black, Asian, Tall, Fat, Skinny, Pretty.. there is everything. That's why I'm going because they want differences within people and arent look for the typical broadway star, persay. They don't want something A Chorus Line, for example would want, tall, skinny, built. They want young people who are passionate about theater who are different and special.... I think. That's just my opinion

They're not looking for "young people who are passionate about theater who are different and special."
They're looking for what every other casting director is looking for: somebody who's got talent.

Zeitoujo: You and a few other things have convinced me to go.
I sound more like a Georg, so yeah.
But, it shall be an experience: And maybe some good will come of out of it, but if not. I could meet a few new cool people, right?
And say "Hey, I auditioned for a Broadway musical!" :)

Posted: 3/11/08 at 9:36amHoly crap...my kids and I are going to be down that weekend. Now if I can only convince my daughter to give it a shot....for the experience. I think she's got a great voice, but not a ton of confidence. Just trying out, no matter the outcome, would be a breakthrough.

Posted: 3/11/08 at 11:22amI think i have started a monster. I agree with Yankfan 007, comment. The reason that they are holding open calls are to pick people who have got talent not the best resume!

I emailed the website to make sure my daughter was old enough to audition (at 15) and they said no problem, but it would limit the roles she'd be considered for...presumably Remy or Lili's.
They also said she'd be too young for the tour...have to be 18 for that.
