SAY NO to this "Special Tony" stuff!

Ok. This "Special Tony" stuff, for the Billy's, is absurd.

They work hard. And they're good. But they do it twice a week.. and now there's going to be four of them.

Once puberty hits, the kids are out. It will be a neverending cycle of kiddies. Why do they get a special award???

I just don't see the logic in creating a "Special Tony" for a few dancing boys. It's a little silly. To be completely honest.

Did I miss something?

Guys, this is kind of ridiculous. What's so bad about someone believing there should be a special Tony?

The actors who play Billy Elliot are very, very talented, but you cannot really compare them with full-grown adult actors who have been working toward a Tony for a long time. It's difficult to judge who's 'better' in a situation like that. A "Special Tony" makes sense. On the other hand, TheCharleston DOES have a point that there will be frequent Billy replacements if this show has a healthy lifespan on Broadway, since the leads are so close to puberty.

Both of you have points on this issue that makes sense, but TheCharleston, I don't see why you'd create a thread to publicly denounce PG2 for an opinion of his that actually makes a fair amount of sense. Yeah, you disagree with his point, but let's be honest, this thread isn't about Special Tonys--you only made this thread because you don't like PG2. You're blowing what he's saying out of proportion because you're hoping other people will attack him as well.

And keep in mind that this whole idea of giving the actors who play Billy a special Tony was because they did that for the role when the show opened up in London with the Olivier awards. Instead of just giving it to one person for best actor they gave the best acting Olivier to all three of them.

I also think that it shouldn't matter how long you have been working for. Even if it's your debut and your the best performer in that category that year, then that is all that should matter.
