"How fair is it for him to be complaining about people who gush and gush, but not for people who hate and hate. He wants people to stop gushing, but yet he keeps hating as much as people are gushing."

Aida,

As I seem to be the person you are squawking about (and please correct me if I'm wrong), let me say first off that I wasn't commenting on gushing, but on gloating. I'm afraid it reflects very poorly on the person engaging in it, and I hope I've helped the poster in question to realize it.

As for the matter of those who gush on and on about heaven knows what, my feeling is if that's what floats their boat, well, so be it. It's certainly something I neither enjoy reading or doing. I loved many shows in my lifetime, but I don't gush about them five times a day every day of the year.

As for posting repeatedly about shows one hates, well, here I think your perspective is a bit skewed. When people gush several times a day for years on end about crap that is inimical both to our theatre's health and our audiences' constitution, well, then, that's a problem that needs to be addressed. Frankly it's not something I enjoy doing, but, hey, if you aren't willing to stand up for what's right, how can you expect anyone else to? So it has nothing in the least to do with hate, but rather with balance, with standards, and most of all, with the well-being of our theatre.

The mental acrobatics A8 routinely performs to justify his continued malignant presence on this board are impressive.

Still it is nice to gloat a little.

Are you new here?  The Preview thread was for the most part very positive about this show.  Yes there were some negative opinions, but far less so than for many recent shows I've seen (check out the Fiddler thread).  If the fact that the fairly positive reviews seem to agree with the preview thread that you were put off by causes you to feel the need to gloat then... ok?

Delusional hypocrite.  As the above proves, the concept of "opinion" is completely lost on you and nothing you have said has ever proven any expertise on the subject.  Speaking on behalf of theatre and audiences, you have only supplied your opinion and no quantifiable fact, rendering your statements irrelevant.

If you don't enjoy doing it, then stop doing it.  Nobody has ever asked you to stand up for anything because nobody has ever needed you to do so.  You're like those Utah Mormons "saving the souls" of deceased Jews posthumously.  Believing what you say does not equate to the opinions of others, as you so often claim.  I can only assume you enjoy doing it because it is 99% of your contribution to these boards.  If those are your standards, then "so be it".  The "well-being" of your theatre (you do not speak for everyone...you never have and never will) is your concern and not the responsibility of anyone else.

Is AH8's theater doesn't allow for Sondheim, Fun Home, or Hamilton, he can keep it.

He loathes when people speak for others, except when he does it- because when he does it, he's standing up for what's right.

He says that when a show he doesn't like fails, it's because audiences have the awareness to reject bad material and critical influence. When a show he doesn't like succeeds, it's because audiences have been duped by critics.

He says people should be allowed to find happiness in whatever show they like, but he will be the first one in a thread to bring up how loathsome any number of popular modern shows are.

He says he goes to theatre apparently many times a week, but only actually enjoys a very small handful of anything he sees.

This lady is a tramp.
