I've seen SHREK twice now

at first glance, you assume it's a family-orientated musical

technically it is... it's very age appropiate and fluffy entertainment for the kids.

but the material and overall production fails to deliver this message. Many of the jokes are based on older Broadway shows, or is directed towards mature themes (cross-dressing wolf/"hot tranny mess"), or consist of unique references and tributes to the older generations.

on top of THAT - the show has artistic merit and isn't some Disney orgy fest. it's not all about using pretty pictures or neat special effects to excite the kiddies.

both times I noticed many restless children and anxious parents.

What is SHREK'S target audience??? It perplexes me, to be honest. It's like the creative team couldn't decide what kind of show this should be.

Am I the only one who is bothered by this?

They have this really nice brand of health products called 'Every Man Jack'. Each product is under 5 bucks, and they are pretty nice, let me tell ya.

I've seen the show twice: once early on in previews, then right after the opening. Both times, the mild enthusiasm I felt at intermission dissappeared during the second act. Ballads bore kids, and when they are as bland as the ones here, also bore adults.

You can only entertain kids with farts for so long ....
