This is so exciting!! I know Betsy Wolfe personally (she comes from my home town. woot woot!!) and this is a huge deal! She definitely won't be a disappointment, I can promise you that. Another reason why it's exciting: I love this show!
Sounds like an amazing cast.

When Wicked was having those singing contests around the suburbs of the city for its first anniversary, I remember going and Betsy was one of the three finalists. She sang No Good Deed and I remember her being very good. I'm pretty sure this is the same person. Can't wait to see if this comes to Broadway.
BwayBaby, you're not alone. I haven't seen her in Curtains, but I truly couldn't stand Erin Davie in Grey Gardens or Applause. As Side Show really did thrill me the first time around, I do desperately want this reading to progress to a full revival, but I do hope she won't stay attached. Lazar, Mays, and Balgord, though--those are exciting!

Aaron Lazar singing "Private Conversation"? Yes please.
I'm sorry but she just doesn't have any charisma or demand attention on stage.
Still think York and Gettelfinger would be brilliant.
Great cast!
"Aaron Lazar singing "Private Conversation"? Yes please."
That is if that's one of the songs they keep now, I suppose? This cast would have really interested me (Lazar especially) were it not for them making changes to the show itself. Side Show is one of my favorites and I do not like the idea of changes, it honestly leaves me completely disinterested in this.

If you join Roundabout at a certain level do you get invited? Thanks!
Erin Davie was fascinating in GREY GARDENS, she was a great improvement from Gettelfinger (who is wonderful, just not as Little Edie). Her Little Edie was all it needed to be and she basically set the ground for Ebersole's renowned work in Act II.
I personally loved her in APPLAUSE, it's not her fault her role was soooooooo incredibly underdeveloped and she had all of one good song.
I was hoping for Leigh Ann Larkin as Daisy but she is obviously tied up with GYPSY. I'm sure Betsy was picked for a good reason.
The whole cast is...wow! I do hope there is life for this production after the workshop.
I'm with changinandhow. No thank you.
Thrilled about Erin Davie!
I'm on the bandwagon of her being terrific in GREY GARDENS. Her nuances and overall characterization were spot on. Vocally, she's a terrific musician, as well. Her "Daddy's Girl" continues to amaze me...

Leigh Ann Larkin HAS to be in Side Show instead of Erin Davie. I imagine they didn't ask her because she is busy at the moment. Betsy Wolfe has a good voice, but she and Erin do not remotely have the same body type, which I find interesting since they are supposed to be identical twins.
I thought they got Wolfe because Larkin wasn't available.
Erin Davie is terrific.
Anyway...
Regarding body types...
Alice Ripley and Emily Skinner had very different body types too, and it was fine. Ripley is a slender, petite woman, Skinner is more voluptuous. Makes no difference.

Emily Skinner used to be a lot less voluptuous...

Well, didn't we all? : )
Their body types were noticeably different on stage.

changinandhow: If they take out that song, I will write them a VERY strongly worded letter!
... if someone tells me to whom to address it, that is.

I'm kind of afraid of this whole thing, I don't like changes.

Yeah, I'm kinda concerned about all the changes too. It may sound weird, but I'm gonna be really upset if they cut Leave Me Alone. It's kinda pointless, but I love it. I do, however, hope that they cut Say Good-bye to the Freak Show.
Betsy's purposefully over-belting during the Spelling Bee adult show was pretty impressive. I'm sure it's fine when she reigns it in.
Out of curiosity, did anybody hear how this went?

I heard from someone who attended that it was AMAZING....Bill Condon did a great job working with Russell and Krieger in revising the show...sounds like the invited audience was very impressed, including some pretty big name people....hope we hear something soon on a possible full staging....what does the Roundabout have announced for this coming season? any room for Side Show???
gotta love Deven May.
