SITE UPDATE (With Barbra Streisand) for The Elephant Project

I posted this on the off-topic board but it isn't getting much traffic and since my project has to do with Broadway, I decided to post on the Broadway board too.

This summer, I started a small charity project that actually might turn into something kind of big. It is called the Elephant Project and is to benefit the Alzheimer's Association. My grandfather passed away two months ago from Alzheimer's so I decided I wanted to do something to give back in honor of him. Alzheimer's disease that is a form of dementia that causes the victim to lose memory among other things. There is a phrase "elephants never forget," and we are trying to help people who are victims of Alzheimer's to "never forget." This is how the elephant became the mascot of the project.

I am having celebrities sign a business card that says "Elephants never forget... Thank you for buying an elephant to help someone never forget" and take a picture with an elephant beanie baby. I will then auction these items off to raise the money. I just started the project and I already have had 21 people to sign and take pictures.

My website is... http://www.elephantproject.org
The website isn't totally finished, but it is mostly there.

I hope all of you check out the site and hopefully support the cause. Thanks.

David

re: The Elephant Project (A Charity Project I started -- featuring Broadway

Great idea! The website looks really nice. You have a great template and all of your information is very easy to understand. I would keep working on finishing the site (obviously) and making sure everything looks professional but you definetly don't have to worry about content. You have a really impressive list of celebrities who have participated too- nice job!

Thanks. I am working on a new template for the site. This is just something to store the information until I make something great. Look for many more celebrities to be added. I just started to get people to participate a week ago!

Yea, this is really really cool. I was standing next to Amy Spanger when you asked her to sign it. I'll definately try too buy one when I get money. My Grandma has Alzheimer’s. And she lives in Ireland so I only see her maybe three days out of the year and when I saw her last summer she didn't have a clue who I was.

If you are really looking to gain publicity for the cause you could even try getting in touch with "People Magazine". I know they run stories about people (especailly teens) who have started organizations like yours. It might be a long shot but you might as well try and if it did work out it would bring in a lot of interest/donations.

John - It really is a terrible disease. I'm sorry about your grandmother. And thanks for passing it on to the Time inc. friend.

Green - My mom actually is going to write to People magazine and then she thinks she wants to write Oprah. LOL. This might actually turn into something big.

So if you win the auction you get a beanie, business card, and copy of the picture? That sounds great. Great cause! I wish you luck with this!

Let us know exactly when the auctions are! I would love to look into bidding.

Another suggestion: When it gets closer to aucton time you can try to really spread the word by posting on other websites (other broadway websites, fan sites for the actors, imdb pages, etc) anything that will get more people interested in checking out the aution.

I definately will be doing that.

Also, if anyone is an active member of a fansite for an actor who has particpated in the project, I'd appreciate it if you could pass on the Elephant Project to the members of so-and-so site.
