SOUTH PACIFIC Dates at LCT

http://www.playbill.com/news/article/109445.html

"Lincoln Center Theater has announced dates for the upcoming Broadway revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein's South Pacific.

Bartlett Sher, a Tony nominee for his direction of The Light in the Piazza, will direct the production at the Vivian Beaumont Theater, which will run February 28–June 15, 2008.

The Lincoln Center Theater production of South Pacific marks the Tony and Pulitzer winning musical's first Broadway revival since its 1949 debut."

re: SOUTH PACIFIC Dates at LCT

I am really looking forward to all the great revivals coming up in the Spring (SOUTH PACIFIC, GUYS & DOLLS, CABARET, SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE), doesn't get any better than this.
If it weren't for the fact that dull Kelli O'Hara was cast as Nellie, I'd be even more excited.

I heard that Michael Cerveris was offered the role of Emile opposite O'Hara, but no word yet on whether he will be doing it.

Steven Pasquale will be playing Lieutenant Cable.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

Steven Pasquale is a terrific singer and actor but I think too old for Cable. (and too beefed up also)

re: SOUTH PACIFIC Dates at LCT

Somethingwicked, that's great news. Everyone kept focusing on Nellie but since I'm so disappointed in O'Hara's casting I'll just have to be excited about the rest of the cast. Pasquale is a great star.
And I'm a Cerveris admirer but Emille he ain't.
Wonder what actresses have been approached to play Bloody Mary, Juanita Hall's shoes will not be easy to fill.

Pasquale was indeed offered it, but I thought he turned it down due to scheduling with RESCUE ME. ...I could be wrong. Or things could've changed.

Pasquale didn't turn it down.

He's going to be shooting "Rescue Me" during the day and doing the show at night. The producers of the show have been very accomodating in working out a way for him to do both.

Cerveris is certainly an interesting choice for Emile, but something doesn't ring as "right" for me. We'll see what happens if he ends up taking the role.

I've still got my fingers crossed for Lillias White as Bloody Mary.

How about Jennifer Holliday as Bloody Mary?

re: SOUTH PACIFIC Dates at LCT

No. Jennifer Holliday has Carol Channing disease and will only play Effie for the rest of her life.

re: SOUTH PACIFIC Dates at LCT

I think he's a fine actor, but O'Hara and Carveris? I sure hope not.

re: SOUTH PACIFIC Dates at LCT

Well, Emile is supposed to be older than Nellie, I've just always pictured Emile as the ultimate leading man, a Warren Beaty kind of figure: sexy, charming, never-out-of-style, incredibly handsome man. Cerveris is great at playing leading character roles but I didn't enjoy him as Giorgio and I think he would be miscast as Emile.
I thought they were going for opera stars. The Broadway actors I think would be great in this role are: Marc Kudisch, Robert Westenberg, Brent Barrett and Gregg Edelman.
I'm not sure I'd want White to reprise her Bloody Mary but I also can't really think of anyone else that I'd like to see in the role.

I cannot wait to see this production. Better yet, I hope I get to audition for it!

re: SOUTH PACIFIC Dates at LCT

Wow, I am extremely excited to finally see Pasquale in a musical again, and this time on Broadway! That, to me, is perfect casting and hopefully he will be amazing. I don't like the idea of Cerveris as Emile and I think he has more of a tenor than a baritone (even though the role really requires a bass). I think Brent Barrett is the one I would most like to see in the role, unless they can get Philip Quast to play Emile. I am also hoping that Lillias White will get a chance to reprise her performance in this production. White's "Happy Talk" was out of this world.

I am going to sched a trip around this! I have grown to love this show more and more. Cannot wait!

re: SOUTH PACIFIC Dates at LCT

Hm... Marc Kudisch as Emile? Now THAT would be interesting.
[title of show] on Broadway. it's time. believe.

re: SOUTH PACIFIC Dates at LCT

Marc would be really interesting. He's a brilliant actor and singer.

re: SOUTH PACIFIC Dates at LCT

Kudisch is 100 perfent wrong for the role, IMO. He lacks a cetrain warmth needed.
