I am really curious to read about Wednesday night's performance. With Tuesday night being off and the Wednesday matinee cancelled, I am hoping that we'll read about some major changes. Perhaps, even the end of the dreadful shoe song. Maybe a new ending, maybe a new song.
I still believe that Ms. Taymor can pull this show together and make Spider-man a huge success - both artistically and commercially.

"Wicked and Phantom are big hits because audiences respond to their STORIES, whatever you might think of their overall quality. And this is what Spider-Man lacks. I don't think it's possible for any show to succeed with such a dull book and score."
I've yet to see Spiderman but I'm very curious (going next month)... but with Wicked... it's an excellent production of a good story with ok songs.

I don't see the comparison to Wicked and Spider-Man at all. I really don't get the Wicked hate. Sure, it's not really all that deep but the story is NOT terrible. At least Wicked has jokes that can land with the audience too. Try and see Wicked and NOT leaving the theater with at least one song in your head.
Spider-Man has yet to reach that point mostly because you are not invested in the story of Spider-Man, really. In fact, I felt most invested in the story of Green Goblin. At least he had clear wants and motivations.

People respond to different things. I don't know anyone who ever responded to the story of Phantom. They loved the spectacle and the music. I worked with the first national tour and I know for a fact that we were not flooded with calls for over a year before performances began from people DEMANDING row H in the center orchestra for the story. It's like saying the reason Mamma Mia is so successful is because of the story. The fact it has ABBA music is purely irrelevant. And I think it's safe to assume the story didn't keep Cats in business. If Phantom and Wicked are popular due to the spectacle, that is ok. They do it well.

I saw the show the Christmas night -- the net was there. It was lackluster.
