Hey All -
So, I just wanted to pose this one to the masses, anyone with information, by all means, share it. I'm doing some homework on this piece (just me being the curious director, really) and I'm wondering what most productions have done set-wise. Is KISS OF THE SPIDERWOMAN a difficult show to put-up? Can it be done in a minimalist's approach? Do any have opinions of the piece on the whole? Any and all insight welcome.
Many thanks in advance!
Best,
- Mike

It's got a very difficult subject matter, but I think it definitely can be done with a minimalist approach. There's a great production of it right now in Los Angeles with a 14 person cast (an ensemble of 6, 3 principals, and 5 supporting) and a 5 or 6 piece band in a 99 seat theater, and it's fantastic. I actually went to see it twice.
However, the fantasy numbers involving the character of Aurora definitely need an element of glitz, glamor, and flash to work well. The entire show is about contrast from glitz and polish of Molina's fantasies to the dark, drab reality of prison life.

This wouldn't be the Havok production, would it?
I've been reading-up on that one. Seems pretty stellar.
Could you elaborate on the cast -As to how it's split (pertaining to the ensemble and supporting roles, specifically). I'm still doing some research as to those roles, and how each character progresses the story along.
Anyone else with thoughts, comments, concerns about the piece (Broadway incarnation (or others), I'd love to hear 'em!
Best,
- Mike
