Does anyone know when the closing date is for SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE? I'm assuming it's a limited run because it's being produced by Roundabout.
i would have assumed the same but as of now, it is an open-ended run.
I could've sworn I read it was closing in April. I want to say April 6.
ah. you're right. i could have sworn i read that it was open-ended. maybe on the tdf webstite? anyways, playbill has this on their webstite:

Will some of the performances start at 8:00? I usually have dinner at 7:00.
wtf?
all evening performances are at 8pm.
read the post.
I wish this was open-ended. It saddens me that we're finally getting a Sunday... revival and it's a limited run. Maybe I'll get lucky and it'll extend a few weeks.
The really sad part, and the reality, is that it probably won't even sell out its limited run. Unfortunately, Sondheim doesn't appeal to the masses. Especially artistic shows like this.

I think it can sell out three months worth, probably on mostly subscribers alone!
ya. its a shame.
at least we get a little sondheim every season.
If it gets great reviews (which is a strong possibility), maybe that'll create positive buzz, and it'll sell well?
Ah, a girl can only dream.
ASSASSINS had a scheduled 3-month limited run a few years ago, it won 5 Tony Awards and still had to close early because of poor ticket sales.

It ran longer than that, won 5 Tony Awards, and was only 13 years old. Sunday in the Park has a bigger following and hasn't been seen in over two decades. Plus, this has 2 Olivier Award winning actors.
Two Olivier award winners no one's ever heard of.

Although I don't think that will put people in the seats whether they knew them or not, I wouldn't downplay the prestige of winning that award.

I wish this wasn't during Spring Semester, otherwise it'd be a Lot easier to go.
and, unfortunately, it is a show that most of my generation has never heard of...
^ You make it sound like SUNDAY is like 50 years old. lol
Does any Sondheim show really have a big following? When I think of shows with big followings, I think of GREASE or WICKED.
I'm rooting for this show, but I cannot imagine it selling out for three months. Subscribers alone don't sell out any Roundabout shows. Look at 110, APPLE TREE, all of their plays, PACIFIC OVERTURES. All limited runs.

After Sweeney Todd and Company, I'd hope that it would attract new fans to his shows, especially those that helped them run for 8-10 months.
The only people that helped COMPANY run as long as it did were the investors.
and Sweeney had a weird fangirl following

Fangirls or not, I wouldn't write off this run so soon as having difficulty. Plus I doubt that buying the cheapest seats from a few diehard fans made such a difference with Sweeney.
maybe the run will be followed by a tour?
that could be successful.
Sweeney also got excellent reviews, had a recognizable name in the cast, and is a more recognizable title than SITPWG. Not to mention, there was the whole novelty of the actor-musician concept.
