Magic Theatre raises $450,000 in a little over a week!

Shakespeasre Santa Cruz over $400,000 in ten days!

On behalf of the Board and staff of Magic Theatre, thank you. We are deeply grateful to our community of supporters--subscribers, artists, audience members, and other theatre-lovers--here and all over the country, who made contributions to keep our doors open.

We are thrilled that we will be producing Tough Titty-- the kind of play that comes along perhaps only once in a lifetime. Performances begin January 24.

We thank you for your generosity, and we thank our Board of Directors for its extraordinary leadership.

I didn't know there was a contest between Shakespeare Santa Cruz and the Magic Theatre to see who could raise the most money.

I also find that headline tactless.
Both theatres were on the verge of closing. To even imply that there was a contest or that the Magic is better than Santa Cruz is wrong.
I am, however, happy that both theatres raised the money they desperately needed.

I never implied that there was a contest. The Magic was given a grant.

Both companies are nationally-renowned, and both were saved, garnering over $400,000 each from all over the US and Canada in under two weeks, which is so awesome, and proof that even in these time, people do care, and that theatre is alive and well.
