interesting how two consecutive shows that have arrived @ the Palace have had their leads replaced by understudies before the run began in NYC (or standy-bys... whichever Cheyenne was)
chances are AndyF is posting above or below me...

Strange isn't it?
Now I'm waiting for someone to say "And they both flopped!"

Posted: 1/7/06 at 4:47pmWhile the buzz on the show may not be so great, this new is, and means that I'll definately be seeing the show next time I'm in NYC (provided that it's opened/still open...hope so). Saw Drew in Barbarella (underrated show, really), and he's phenomenal.

It's too bad for me I guess. I can't wait to see the show, but I really wanted to see Jack. Ah well, My loss.
Also, I really want a vampire musical to survive on Broadway let's hope its this one!

For a second, I thought it said 'Stritch' instead of 'Sarich'...

now, if you had left the Palace theater 3 months from now and said..."and they both flopped", it would make sense. As you would have been reviewing a FINISHED product.
Let the damn show continue the OUT OF TOWN working timeframe in peace for a while, won't ya?

Well, I hope it will help....doubtful though... (Speaking as one who was primed to enjoy this show and left the theatre in shock). Sarich was in the performance that we attended. He was neither outstanding, nor terrible.
If they can tame Hugo's overacting, they might have a chance!

Posted: 1/7/06 at 9:44pmI'm seeing it this week. I never read the Ann Rice books, nor care for vampires in particular. I want to see Carolee Carmello in person and listen to that glorious voice. I may have a better chance of enjoying the show, going in with no expectations.

Posted: 1/7/06 at 9:44pmThis is already old news. We knew of this over a week ago, at least I did. And I agree with Justme2, Leave this piece alone till it opens in New York unless you are really being constructive in your views. It isn't open for reviews yet. Constructive opinion views, yes, but not "It's a Flop!" stuff. Changes are being made day & night.

Yes sadly, but sevreal people are determined to poo-poo this show before they even see it.
a) I'm one of the people who has seen it, so this doesn't apply to me.
b) Most of the negativity expressed is along the lines of "lots of people who've seen it have said..."
c) Don't be so defensive. It's not like someone's kicking your weak new puppy.
d) As you've said, the show is a work in progress.

I saw the show in it's first preview on December 17th and gave it a lukewarm review of a C+ (detailed review available on the Lestat Musical forum) and just saw the 2nd to last SF preview last night. In my first review I noted that I thought Noseworthy was off and didn't feel right in the role when I saw him and I was happy to see them seek a replacement. I'm glad to say that Sarich is perfect in the role, he is exactly the antogonist that I was looking for. He has a youthful naive innocence balanced with the perfect amount of michivious cunning.
I know that everyone has an opinion and these days it's much more fun to spread rumors of doom and gloom but I believe I can objectively say that this musical has improved signifigantly since I first saw it and you can tell that the production team understands what isn't working. It is pretty evident to me that they are working out the small wrinkles for the SF open tomorrow night and will do some restaging (Sail Me Away), add a song or two (male torch needed in Act 1) and do some trimming (Act 1 needs it, try Paris) between sf and ny previews.
I was sitting next to two women (50+) who were SHN season pass holders who told me that they have never seen the a show in SF sold out. It is selling out every night and they also told me that they were stunned by how young the crowd was. They said that they would guess that a majority of the crowd at the Curran last night was 20 years younger then what they are used to seeing.
The show has not only tightened up and is transitioning better but it has gotten darker and I had more goosebump moments this second time around even though I knew what was coming. From all accounts the first act is still what needs some work. Of the women I mentioned above, only one was sold on the show at intermission but after the 2nd act both were very positive about it. Even though they are about the same running time the first act still feels almost twice as long as the second. They have to set up a signifigant amount of story here and they are going to have to sit down and think what will get trimmed.

Posted: 1/8/06 at 2:35amthank god i saw Drew in it on Dec.29th and i couldnt imagin anyone else playing the role he was amazing im soooo happy....plus that will mean he will be on the c.d recording YAY! and Finally some people who thought the show was good. I went to one message board and there wasnt one positive comment about it....sure the show needs a little work but i mean it just got out of previews thats why they do the previews to work out the kinks....you cant expect it to be perfect yet....
#21re: Sarich named replacement for Amand in 'Lestat'
Posted: 1/8/06 at 2:42amI don't think anyone's expecting perfection. However, "good enough to rationalize charging $85" should be considered.
#22re: Sarich named replacement for Amand in 'Lestat'
Posted: 1/8/06 at 2:46amwell then its definaltly worth 85$ as well....i mean its not a bad price...people keep saying its so much money but when it gets to New York its going to go into the hundreds
#23re: Sarich named replacement for Armand in 'Lestat'

$85 is still $85.
I don't think Bay Area people who just don't have the money for Lestat are saying, "Well, I suppose, when it goes to New York, it'll cost more, so I'll pay this much, even though I don't plan to/can't go to New York." That's not a factor. How much it'll cost later on is a moot point.
And "hundreds"? Top ticket price might be in three digits, but the first one won't be any bigger than 1.
P.S. The word is spelled "definitely."
