...so now have a frame of reference to compare it a bit with Jessica-Snow Wilson who I saw last week as Audrey. Jessica was very good in the role, and played the part fairly closely to how Ellen Greene did in the movie. Kerry on the other hand was absolutely fantastic, and I thought in many ways, made the character her own. I give her a great deal of credit for having the courage to take a part so closely associated and preserved by another actress because there’s truly no way to please everyone with such a portrayal. Overall, the show’s very highly recommended if you’re looking for a fun night out.
Also, the cast recording is now available at the theater and well worth the price for Suddenly Seymour on its own. Haven't listened to the rest yet, Yankees took post-show precedence on the car ride back to Nyack.

Posted: 10/19/03 at 12:17amOne other note about tonight, they had surveys included in the Playbills asking what made you come see the show, what radio stations you listen to, newspapers you read, etc. A good idea to determine where marketing $$s are working.

Wow. They're still doing surveys? They were doing them during previews. This is very late for a show to still being handing them out. I guess it's on its last legs

Posted: 10/19/03 at 12:22amI don't think a marketing effectiveness survey would be a sign of doom, just a sign of looking to spend $$ wisely. With all of the choices out there these days, the costs involved and the difficulty in determing what's working best when you've got multiple campaigns running at once I'm surprised that more shows aren't doing the same.

Posted: 10/19/03 at 12:24amNot always.. They sometimes just do it for marketing purposes. The companies who produce the show or the theaters who house them might want it got refrence on to know how to see shows in presently or in the future.

I saw the show myself on Thursday night.
The surveys have nothing to do with the show--just marketing of a Broadway show.
The show is not in trouble--it was actually quite fun (and I consider myself a merciless fan of the musical). And finally having seen the show, I don't see where it ever deserved the vitriolic missives--critiques and personal opinions, sure--but it doesn't deserve, nor come close to inciting venom.

Posted: 10/19/03 at 4:07amDo you guys really think that a show that's not in trouble takes the time to do surveys like that a month into the run? Have you looked at the grosses? It would be surprising to see the show make it past January. Not being venomous, just honest.

Posted: 10/19/03 at 8:02amLSOH will not make it to the spring. They are selling no tickets. Bad career choice Kerry.

Posted: 10/19/03 at 9:59amActually, I think it was a GREAT career choice, Kerry! Not every show is going to make it big like Hairspray. I also cannot wait to hear the rest of Suddenly Seymour. Ok, is it still coming out Tuesday?...I have heard different rumors.

Posted: 10/19/03 at 10:39amI will have to agree with Fosterchild and Vinnie. It's not looking good and it has very little to do with this or any other fan board. The problem is with this particular production of the show, period!

Kerry gives a great performance and it is a great show.
Oh and the plant is incredible. Bigger then ever before.
I saw the original and love the show. It is worth seeing.

I have seen the original. I saw it three times.
Excuse me if I forgot the name of the theater.
It was many years ago.

Posted: 10/19/03 at 11:30amI don't see LSOH closing anytime soon. I think it will at least last until the Tony's. This year, the Tony's should make a special category for puppets.

What are you people talking about? This show has not shown any indication of it closing anytime soon. And why should there be any concern about it? The show is not in trouble, and it will be fine. It is an enjoyable theatrical experience, that appeals to the masses, and has a cult following. Not to mention that it is a very good production of it. Every production cannot be perfect, especially when it has a previous incarnation to compare itself to. I think all the prophecies and conclusions about it closing soon is ridiculous. And jrb is right....these surveys are only being done for marketing reasons. Do you seriously think they are just going to up and close their show because of a few nay-sayers? No. I've seen the show twice already and most of the audience, if not all, came out of that theatre with a smile on their faces. I wish Little Shop, Kerry, and all the cast well. And no, Kerry, you made a great career choice!
Cheers,
The Balladeer

Posted: 10/19/03 at 2:06pmA show at 60% just a few weeks after reviews is NOT doing well. Trust me. I don't know how much the producers are willing to lose in trying to make a hit, but it looks like it'll close the first week of January. I know you KIDS on here just want to say things like "It was great!" "Kerry was great!" "It was fun!" and "Check it out anyway!" but if we're talking about things from a business perspective, it's doomed.

I love it.
FosterChild says "Trut me..I know what I'm talking about."
Oh really? Then please share with us your expertise of the industry? What is your position in the theater industry that gives you the wealth of knowledge that makes you able to make such sweeping and grand statments?
Oh yes...I see it coming. "I will not tell you what I do. I don't have too. but TRUST ME..I know what I'm saying."
Seen it before. Some 12 year old arm chair quaterback who likes to think they are part of a major billion dollar industry and able to make those all important decisions just because they read Playbill.
If you want to make these snap decisions, then have the background and expertise in the field.
Trust me.

Posted: 10/19/03 at 6:42pmWe KIDS are appealed to different shows that you OLD PEOPLE, so don't even bring that into play. Anyways, who cares? Fosterchild, you should be supporting the show no matter how bad it is...if not than re-register as a different user name.
