*How was Diana Kaarina as Miss Dorothy? I saw her in Les Mis as Eponine and she was wonderful.
*No elevator? I was wondering how they were gonna do this on tour, and in the future, in community theatre and high school productions. The elevator, I'm sure, is an expensive prop, but essential to the story line. How did they get around this?
*As far as heights, yes, Sutton is taller than Cristian by maybe an inch or two. I met them all and with heels on Sutton is a bit taller than me, and Christian a bit shorter, and yes, Gavin is 6-2.
The La Jolla production had a wall built to look like the back of an elevator, and moved the lights up (or down) to show the direction the elevator was going in. Very effective.
Oh nice! I hadn't heard that before - I wonder why they took it out? "Stumbling" is one of my favorite scenes from the movie and I thought helped to develop Millie and Miss D's relationship. Thanks for the info!

Hank, as a continuation of the Sutton-Christian height difference. She is an inch or teo taller than him, then you add in her heels for the show and she is instantly about 4-5 inches taller. They MUST have in him in lifts of some type. Greg Jbara wore 3 inch lifts in Victor/Victoria.

I saw the La Jolla production twice and have seen it on Broadway three times. And I must say that the costumes were much better in La Jolla, at least thats my opinion. Jim Stanek and Sarah Uriarte Berry Rocked!!! I do like their Broadway counterparts, but they were equally as good if not better. It kind of felt like the show had more energy before it moved to Broadway. It was great then, and of course I love it now. I am thrilled Uriarte Berry is coming back to Broadway. I loved the La Jolla show. (If you couldn't tell.)
The scene in the hotel is very weird and weak without the elevator. Millie offers to show Miss Dorothy the rooms, and they just move to the middle of the stage and do the elevator dance moves, but no elevator! It didn't make any sense and was unintentionally funny.
The actress playing Miss Dorothy was fine. I think I liked the actress on Broadway a bit more.

did they keep the same costume and set designer from la jolla for the broadway production?? if so waht a big improvment!!! from looking at the pics the costumes and set sucked for la jolla!
(Maybe I should've made this argument a year ago.)
I'll admit some of the sets in La Jolla were a bit scary and overly art-deco looking, but the Broadway production looks overdone and as if it's trying too hard.
From everything I've seen of the Broadway production, Millie almost seems to have been turned into something stereotypically Broadway. You know what I mean. A sitcom or movie character goes to see a show (that has to be a made up so so there won't have to be any paperwork for royalties and such), and it's something very glitzy and generalized. And just very BROADWAY, and I don't say that term in a good way.
It's the general feeling I got just from listening to the OBC,and from looking at stills -- and I know I'm not alone.
(I didn't even realize there was a moving hydraulic elevator in the Broadway production until last month or so. WHY?!)

They have to tap to get the elevator going. It was a big thing in the movie as well. Also, Jimmy wore glasses in the movie, but not on Broadway. I got a kick out of the movie, but I like the Broadway show a million times better, for a lot of reasons-Jimmy without the glasses is one.
I saw the show again 2 weeks ago and Sutton is a bit taller than Christian, but I don't think it matters at all. They were great together. In the final scene when Jimmy says to Millie "Funny, I found myself an emerald" there was a big "awww" from the audience.

My opinion of the Dallas Music Hall is the same every time I see a show there... who ever designed that theatre should be shot. I MUCH prefer seeing shows at Bass Concert Hall on the University of Texas campus in Austin. It's huge, the balcony overhangs are like at the Ford Center, the seating layout is like the Minskoff, and it is comfortable to sit in.

And Musetta, I agree. I LOVED the La Jolla Prologue. Brilliant. Thrilling!!! The'll be Some Changes Made!!!
I want to know Dina Kaarina was as Miss Dorthy, is she better than sarah uriarte Barry and angela Christian?
I'm seeing the show for my third time on Saturday. I love it so much- hahaha. I have heard some of the old songs from La Jolla....and I think they are great! I really like what I've heard of the La Jolla cast....I'm not really sure which I like better- probably the Broadway because I have actually seen them in person. As for the costumes- I always thought the La Jolla costumes were a bit....strange, but they aren't horrible!!
