I loved Brooke. I didn't care about her vocal shortcomings, because... the role was not necessarily written for a singer (Rosalind Russell).
That said, Brooke performed the role beautifully and added her own comic touch to it.

Posted: 12/23/04 at 1:39amWell, Donna Murphy is a two-time Tony winner and one of the premiere all-around Broadway talents of this generation. Brooke Shields is ........ well, a hard-working good sport with some OK comedic skills, but nonetheless -- because of "Suddenly Susan" and "The Blue Lagoon" -- has a name that sells tickets (not a LOT of tickets, mind you, but some) to out of town tourists. THAT'S why the Weisslers hired her -- not because they thought she would be the second coming of Streisand.
