Ah, high school shows. I remember the agony of trying to convince my teacher to do Into the Woods EVERY year, but he had done it ten years before and said it was SO hard to pull off for a school production, plus it wasn't a strong choral musical, and the rule of the school musical was that the chorus member were automatically in it, whether or not they went out for a part. (WOW, that was the longest run on sentence EVER.)

Anyway, we didn't do Into the Woods. Instead, I ended up doing Camelot my sophomore year, Guys and Dolls my junior year (HI, can we say OVERDONE?), and Pippin my senior year.

How does one go from playing Guenevere to Adelaide to Catherine? Everyone expected me to get Sarah, little did they know (well, some knew... they were the ones that told me) he did G&D because he wanted me to play Adelaide, LOL!

Ah... I miss high school! (Not really, but it seemed appropriate to say at this sentimental time of reminiscence.)

The most gone out part: Rizzo. I know I won't get the part, but I like the feeling of having a semi-alright audition and then not getting into the show at all.

my HS did (Sweeney todd,west side story,
how to succeed in business,42nd st,romeo and juliet,to gillian on her 37th bday,lend me a tenor and lost in yonkers... of course after i left, they did pippin and little shop of horrors.

i read so much now that SO many high schools never did shows and it really makes me sad that half the kids in the US will never get their exposure even in their community to just have fun. Thats horrible..every HS should have a program that suits everyones needs..im so tired of sports this...sports that.

For our fall production we are doing "The Beverly Hilbillies" (play). This year I will most likely design the lighting. The spring musical is unknown as of now. Last year we did "M*A*S*H" (play) and "Bye Bye Birdie" (musical). I was in both of them.

My school is doing The Elephant Man (for the 'advanced' kids) and A Chorus Line. Yeah, I'm not involved in either. I was kind of too late to try out for A Chorus Line, plus I'm the worst dancer in the world.

I loved the "To Gillian on her 37th Birthday" movie, and I said to myself afterwards "This is defintley an adaptation of either a play or book because there was no violence or sex involved." Who wrote it? I must find the play now. Updated On: 9/6/03 at 05:07 PM

Our director tends to choose the "classic, crowd pleasing" shows.

In my last 3 years, we've done Gypsy, The Sound of Music, and Hello, Dolly! ... this year, it's My Fair Lady.

With the participants mostly (95%) female, it strikes me odd that he would choose a musical with such demanding male leads as this. (Plus, it's not one of my favorites.)

I too wanted to do Into The Woods. 2 years ago, we would have had the perfect cast for it. But alas..we did The Sound of Music.

Well...that sound familiar! I could name all the leads for a particiular show, you name it. My director as particular, over-rated favorites too. He is also a HUGE pervert!

Originally INTO THE WOODS, but a retiring teacher never had done ANNIE, so we were 'forced' to choose it. We are also doing The Coarse Acting Show, Henry IV Part 1, and To Kill A Mocking Bird among others. WE might also do Sorry, Wrong Number.

im not really sure who wrote "to gillian on her 37th birthday"
but, the play is so much more dramatic than the movie. I was Aunt Esther and it was a wonderful production for high school kids. We were asked to go on to the NJ State theater competition at Rutgers for it.

Yes, "To Kill A Mockingbird" is a play, and a very good one. They did it at my junior high school three years ago, along with "Bye Bye, Birdie", none of which I was in because I was too young. Seventh grade we did the drama "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" and "Peter Pan". I was in Jekyll/Hyde, and last year I was in "West Side Story" while the younger ones did "Charlie and The Chocolate Factory". My High School will be doing "The Laramie Project" and I don't know what the Spring Musical will be.

This year my school is doing Taming of the Shrew in Shakespeare in the Park, Jekell and Hyde (touring version, not that which was ruined by David Hasselhoff... Eek.), an original dance drama called Body Language, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and the Laramie Project.

freshman year: macbeth/fiddler on the roof (didnt try out for either. chicken ****.)
sophmore year: the miser/sound of music. (didnt try out for miser. ensemble for sound of music.)
summer production: marvin's room. (company manager.)
junior year: treasure island/12 angry women/pippin. (company manager for treasure island. ensemble for pippin.)
senior year: you cant take it with you/guys & dolls. (martin vanderhoff [aka grandpa] in yctiwy, and ensemble for g&d.)
