Hello,
I just recently realized that the London cast recording of the The Scottsboro Boys is available. I own the off-broadway recording. Aside from the cast, what is the difference between the two? Is owning both essential. I sadly missing the show in NY.
Thanks,
-Eddie

My personal opinion it that you do not need both of these recordings.
They are almost identical and the Bway recording has a stronger cast.

I didn't see it in London, but there is no new material on the cast recording.

I like the London one better, but the difference is really slight. I would say that if you already have one, you don't need another.

I just got the London recording yesterday and enjoyed it more than I remembered liking the original Broadway. I listened to the original again today to make sure, and I think the London is better. But that's just me.

There are a few lyric changes on the London recording, some extra bars of music plus more dialogue here and there. 'Mr. Bones' and 'Mr. Tambo' are played by the same actors but their performances are slightly different. It's not an 'essential' but definitely a 'nice-to-have'.

Is the off-Broadway recording the same cast that went on to Broadway? How different is the score/cast?

They cut It's Gonna Take Time for the Bway production

Also, the off-Broadway recording was made with Brandon Victor Dixon as Heywood. He was replaced on Broadway by Joshua Henry. (Dixon was committed to another show.) I believe the rest of the cast is the same.

I just listened to the London Cast Recording and it's very good. I prefer the Off-Broadway Cast Recording because John Cullum makes such an impression as the Interlocutor. I also think the orchestrations are better on the Off-Broadway Cast Recording. I absolutely love the London cover art, though, and much prefer it to the one used for Off-Broadway.
I love this score so I'm pleased to have another recording of it so soon, although it doesn't add much to what already exists.
