Seascape

Anyone know anything about "Seascape" the Albee play that has George Grizzard,Frances Sternhagen,Elizabeth Marvel and Frederick Weller thats up on my Tdf offerings. They said it won the Pulitzer in 75 but I'm not familiar with it.

re: Seascape

Basically it's about a married couple that is having some problems. They take a trip to the beach and out of the ocean come two lizards who also happen to be having some marriage problems. And the 4 of them kinda . . . talk it out I guess. Great play.

re: Seascape

It did indeed win the Pulitzer in 1975. It's a terrific play that is rarely produced. The cast for this upcoming revival is pretty flawless. If I were you, I'd get tickets.

It also garnered Frank Langella his first Tony award, for playing the male sea creature.

He did indeed. He's no penguin, but there's still a certain degree of ... allure (?) there.

I saw the original production and felt that it was missing an act.

I was by the Booth the other day and the stage door was open. They were working on the set and I was able to catch a few glimpses...from what I saw it was beautiful.

re: Seascape

I saw it last night. It is indeed about a retired couple who bicker about how to spend the rest of their lives. The sea creatures appear at the end of the first Act (or intermission, since it doesn't appear to be separated into acts in the playbill). The play definitely gets interesting with the creatures challenging the older couple to explain everything they know about life. I thought the ending was a little abrupt, though, and the first part of the play rather long. Fortunately, the cast makes it well worth seeing, and Francis Sternhagen is priceless. The set looks like a landscape painting with the characters navigating it...I hope they get hazard pay...Sternhagen didn't seem to comfortable on it and the two actors playing the sea creatures looked a little apprehensive. I'd really reccommend it, it isn't very long.

I'm trying to remember who played Deborah Kerr's husband in the original production. Was it Barry Nelson?

re: Seascape

when's this open? I heard it was getting a revival, but I wasn't expecting it too open anytime soon. Can't wait. It sounds like an awesome idea. Albee is such a genius.
