I honestly don't like this song that much. I think it's the worst song in Rent. Does anyone agree?

The OBC recording of "Seasons of Love" isn't that great. Some of the chorus sounds lazy and flat. But I do like the song itself. Updated On: 2/20/05 at 08:49 PM
nope. It's my favorite from Rent and the only one I can listen to over and over. I love the message and the clever lyrics.
The song is fine. It doesn't really work as a pop song, even though lots of people try to make it work like so. It fits perfectly into the flow of the show and is a wodnerful Act Two opener.

Flat and lazy? I guess I don't hear that in the recording.

		     			It's a great song.
Slightly out of place in it's placement in the show.

Seasons of Love is "that Rent song". It's the song that you hear at bad middle school choir concerts. It's the song that the common, non-geek person usually associates with Rent, yet most Rent fans can name about fifteen Rent songs they'd rather hear.

That being said, when it was 1996 and I went to go see this show that a friend had told me he thought was really amazing and they sang a song called "Seasons of Love"... I do remember being extraordinarily moved. And that will probably never change, as old and tired as the song is.

i love this song. the moment that the cast forms that straight line and sings it is one of those moments that always gets me, even though i've seen it a million times.
I sang it at my 4th grade choir concert, and I honestly don't like the song that much. I think that Jonathan Larson did a lot better with his other songs.
Gorgeous. Overdone (how many high school graduations can we hear it at?), but seriously, what's not to like? It has a beautiful message and great lyrics.

The first time I heard that song live was the single moment at which I fell in love with RENT.

I wasn't a big fan of it from the cast recording. I think it's a lot better in the moment-- what makes click for me is having that line downstage and the energy in the audience. It's the same with the title song. Both songs are good on CD, but great live.

I love the song but i don;t think that it is the best in the show.

I think there are better songs in RENT, but it's still a good song. It my graduation song. The choir at my high school sang it. So it will always been somewhat moving to me either in the context of the play or just in real life. But I usually skip over it when i list to the OBCR.
If I were to name the best POP song in the show, it would have to be "I'll Cover You." Add an accoustic guitar and make it hetero and you've got yourself a bonafide #1. Too bad it couldn't stay homosexual and do as well. You'd think we would be over that by now. But maybe we're ready for that. How about Jai ROdriguez and someone do it for the radio?

I think the best THEATRE song in the show is "Christmas Bells." It's just brilliant theatre writing.

What is wrong with you people? This is a gorgeous song and it sounds beautiful on the OBCR. To each his own, though.
I think that the song has great lyrics... and it's a lot of fun to perform. Chamber singers did it, and it was the first time anyone at our school had done it.

I always liked the Forbidden Broadway version - Seasons of Hype.
Eh, I never really liked it. The song was okay, if you're into the gospel-choir sound, but the lyrics always seemed a bit preachy to me. It always seemed like that if your life was measured in anything but love, than you were wasting your life.
I think it's one of the best songs in the show - and certainly one of the best songs written for theatre in the last 10 or so years. I never get tired of it.

it's an awesome song.. when the cast lines up in their straight line i get chills EVERYTIME..
I love it live. The OBC version is nowhere near how I've seen it performed.

And the lighting and staging in SOL is amazing.

I personally like the song, not my favorite RENT tune or anything. I would have to say my favorites are 'Will I' or 'One Song Glory'. I think I liked SOL more live than on the OBCR was because of the amazing female soloist on the tour this summer in Memphis, really incredible performance.

		     			Yes, lazy and flat.

The chorus just doesn't sound like they WANT to be singing the song. I don't hear any energy or force behind them.

I love this song! While it may not necessary be my favorite Rent song to listen to(Another Day holds that honor), the lyrics and message are just so amazing. Sometime when life starts to suck and things start to go wrong, I tell myself a bunch of messages, most of which comes from Broadway, and one of the ones I always say to myself: "Measure your life in love." How can their be any greater measure and purpose of life of how much love you give and how much love you receive?

I have to admit I like the Stevie Wonder version better.

I really like the song...especially the female soloist.

The only song i dont like in Rent is Without You. The lyrics are horrible, "without you, the lungs breath"? OOO, what a love song. I just think Larson wrote that in 10 minutes.
