jasobres, it's no secret that the composer character in All That Jazz was poking fun at John Kander, not Schwartz. Some friends of Kander still shake there heads and say "What a nasty, nasty stab" when it's brought up and apparently John was really upset/offended/hurt by the "portrayal."
And on the main subject, I heard Schwartz say a few years ago "It's well known that Bob and I did not originally see eye to eye on Pippin, but in hindsight I can see that he was absolutely right in his choices." That makes me wonder why Schwartz would continue to mess with it unless it was simply to update it.

Joniray-
Actually, the songwriter character is based moreso on Fred Ebb. John Kander is slightly based on the man who plays the piano. Ebb was much more of a performer and slightly flamboyent, while Kander was and is to this day, slightly more mild mannered.

thank you michael.
but now I have to go spend $$$ to get the book.
i should have stayed out of the thread, it would have saved me money. but how could I stay away from talking about Pippin?
i desire to see Michael Arden performing it on broadway before i die.
