Bach is awesome as Jekyll and Hyde.
His acting isn't amazing, but his singing and energy is. He's much better as J & H, than as Jesus in JCS. I'd definitely go see that.

Posted: 9/22/04 at 2:40pmHe was decent. It took him a good 15 minutes or so to really click for me. At first I thought I made a mistake not taking the tickets to see Ms. Peters in Annie Get Your Gun. But after the first 15 minutes he was on fire. Heads and tails better than the dying goat (or hasselhoff, whichever you prefer). His take on this is the moment was off the chart, although you could see his hands grasping a phantom hand mic the entire time. His acting wasn't stellar but it was better here than in Rocky Horror or JCS. Forcing him to sing legit was better than when they tried to tailor the following shows to his rock acrobatics. Overall I give him a thumbs up.

I wish I lived closer to where that show is being put on. Does anyone know if a showing of Jekyll & Hyde is going to be in the New England area?
Since I kind of prize singing over acting, I'd probably like Sebastian Bach (and therefore that would make this show worthwhile to see). Then again, I think Colm Wilkinson pretty bad (mainly from a singing standpoint), and anyone after him was a better Jekyll/Hyde.

he sure wasn't a David Hasselhoff!
LOL.

Posted: 9/22/04 at 3:03pmHe was really entertaining in J&H, singing things a third, a fifth and even an octave higher in spots. Much to Frank Wildhorn's delight, Bach was the only actor on Broadway who sang "This is the Moment" in the Anthony Warlow key. Alfred Drake he wasn't, but he had a wild, visceral energy in the role and the show was never more alive or exciting than with Bach.

Last time I saw Sebastian Bach live he was with Skid Row opening for Bon Jovi.
Man, that was a good show.

Posted: 9/22/04 at 3:16pmI'm sure it was just a joke. But he is the opposite of gay. As they say in the female version of The Odd Couple. "He is the most not gay that is possible". Wife and a kid, and I know I know..."that proves nothing" He just has that wonderful mid 80's Hair Metal wail about his voice.

Bach was indeed a pleasant surprise...in the "Jekkyl-Go-Round" line up. He really wailed those songs and was very sexy!! Looked a bit like Ray Bolger's scarecrow from Wizard of Oz in some of the acting...but he was heads above Jack Wagner and Hasselhoff overal, which wasn't saying much.
* Side notes: Baz was very popular with the cast. Humble and fun and really cried like a baby at his closing. They allowed him to bring the "lab scene" home and he set it up in his garage! Not surprised that he'd jump to do it again.

I saw him in JCS...bloody awful! He wore bright green shoes (bo-bo's to we older kids). Did the hair flip every other step. Took on some strange accent turning the Messiah into a Brit.... I swear he was ordering pizza when he called out to Peter...
He turned his role into a rock star attention grabber and was asked to re-think his role and final curtain. This didn't sit well with him. He walked off the show after Philly and faced the music over that. Let's just not go there. He was embarrassingly bad.

Posted: 9/22/04 at 3:47pmI see above that you didn't like him in Rocky Horror CarlMagnum, but again, I thought he was a fun presence. Not the RiffRaff of one's dreams, but he was a rather staggering presence in the costumes, and sang well when he got to do his thing.

Tottaly agree with everything you just stated about JCS. So much potential for an off ther charts performance gone so wrong. And he really became quite the Diva after 3 roles, didnt he?
As far as RHS, maybe it was an off night. I just felt that not only was Raul so hard to live up to but they just changed alot to fit him rather then him trying to blend with the show as is. But yes he did have presence and was fun, just not as good as I expected. And yes I did see the original revival cast so I'm sure I am partly jaded.

Posted: 9/22/04 at 4:54pmI thought he was an embarassment in J&H. His voice was shot by the beginning of the second act, and I was never able to forgot, even for a second, that I was watching Sebastian Bach/Rock Star playing the role. Not a fan.

I think he definitely has his wonderful moments in JCS - I have his whole show recorded. Some embarassing moments, some glory moments, some 'I guess that was passable' moments.
In RHS, I thought he was a lot of fun.
In J & H, he was pretty awesome for the most part.

Posted: 9/23/04 at 2:40amThis show should be just great. I assume they'll be using the MTI script not the Broadway one. The MTI version has "I Need to Know" and "Bring on the Men" and is much better than what was on Broadway. I wish I could see this one...

Posted: 9/23/04 at 7:40amI hated J&H so seeing Sebastian Bach in it the one time I saw the show certainly helped the evening not be a total loss. He isn't a great actor, and he wailed like a rock star and couldn't control his arm gestures while singing his solos. BUT you could tell he respected what he was doing and he was having a good time. And that was more than I could say for many of his costars who were sleepwalking through the show.

Posted: 9/23/04 at 10:01amI totally agree with you - iflitifloat. I saw J&H with Cucciolli and Rob Evan and both were wonderful. Bach was a supreme disappointment. He was even worse in Rocky. I vote him off the island - permanently.
