Hey everyone. I've read things and heard things about actors and actresses leaving the theatre. For example, when the stage door guard yells "Idina has left the building" how does she do it? Is there a secondary stage door? Have any of you seen it? Does she run out into her car before audiences leave the theatre? thanks
There's another door...
But why don't fans of the show go to the second door if they know that their favorite star will be coming out there instead of the stage door?
1) they don't know where it is
2) it's not legal

There are other doors but the people that work at the stage door are LIARS!!! Yesterday they said Idina was already inside. 15 minutes later, Idina came strolling down the street!!! Updated On: 12/30/04 at 01:24 PM
How is it possibly legal to wait by another door? It's not private property.

442namffug just got served!
WickedIsLife, uh...nice philosophy.
If the star that you want to see does not go through the main stage door, that means he/she does NOT want to meet you. Don't go stalking them, it's very rude and the actor feels uncomfortable.

And you might get arrested. Not that I would know, or anything.
You wouldn't get arrested for going to another stage door. I'm not talking about stalking. I also think it's rediculous that some stars are too "cool" to come out of the stage door. If they don't want to sign, take pics, etc that's ok. But too many Broadway stars think they are rock stars or the president of the united states. Use the normal door like everyone else!

A few weeks ago, I did the stagedoor after seeing the show and after an hour, a security guy came from the stage door and said "Idina and Jennifer have already left the building. Sorry" THen everyone was like "HOW?!?!?!" & the guy said "There are PLENTY of ways to get into and leave this theatre."
I believe the other stagedoor is inside the parking garage somewhere. And yes, they might lie, but they may also just not be very on top of it. The night I was there, Idina yelled at the bouncer for telling people she was gone when she was actually coming out.
And can we please not restart the discussion about whether or not it's a star's "job" to sign autographs? They're PEOPLE as stressed on the other thread, and they may or may not want to deal with screaming stars. Maybe they're not "rock stars or the president of the United States", but if the screaming fans treat them as such, it's their right to stay away.

and just remember that Idina is human! She gets tired just like we do! And she works a lot harder than we do! You try doing 8 shows a week for 1 year!
Yeah, yesterday there was a large crowd outside the stage door at the Gershwin BEFORE the show even started. I was amazed. If she signed everyone an autograph before the show, she'd never go on on time. It's a bit rude.
Idina also is terrified of crowds... How many people knew that? She is one of the sweetest people I have ever met.
There are plenty of other doors.. Look around before the show.. I bet they go out of the Circle in the Squares' extra door.. Try that one, exactly opposite of the Gershwin's..
Some people just need to get a grip on reality here. Some of you sound crazed.
Idina Menzel and every other Broadway star are just ordinary people who have extraordinary jobs and they don't owe anyone anything more than what they give onstage (that includes autographs, pictures, etc.) and they don't want anything from you other than your applause. They are not interested in being your new best friend. Also some fans can cross the line because they think they really know that person and who wants to deal with that after you have been sweating your ass off onstage for two and half hours. I can guarantee that they just see themselves as ordinary people and they can't comprehend why people make such a fuss over them for just doing their job. So give them a break. An autograph and picture or whatever isn't included in the price of the ticket.

Keep in mind that any fire door is an exit and many actors and crew members take advantage of this.
I know the main reason for this post was about The Gershwin and stalking Idina, but if anyone wanted to know about any of the other theatres...all of the Shubert Theatres on 44th and 45th between bway and 8th (Shubert, Broadhurst, Majestic, Golden, Royale, Plymouth) are connected. If there's ever a big star, or just someone afraid of crowds, they might exit from a different theatre. If anyone waited outside of TABOO, they know that Boy George actually came out through the stage door about 4 times, and they were all mostly previews and on opening night - he hates fans. So, he would leave through either The Broadhurst or the Majestic. Stuff like that...it's kind of cool when you think about it.
Guys? Just a general question...
If you were a respectful fan...why would you WANT to stalk them at the secondary stage door? The entire reason they go out the back is because they DON'T WANT to deal with fans.
It just seems really selfish to even ask for directions to it...
N0tThatGirl...relax! No one is stalking OR asking for directions. I was just interested in how actors leave without ever coming out of the stage door. I was unaware that there are other exits that they have permission to use. It was just a question.
Believe me, there are plenty of people on this board who would have no shame in asking and trying to hunt down actors there.
Thank you thank you THANK YOU, NTG. If you have any respect and the actor is leaving from the "secret" door, why would you want to follow them there when you KNOW they do not want to be seen?

That's really not always the case...it can be safety issues, or perhaps the actor is feeling sick that night. You don't know their reasons. While I'm sure some of them could very well think they are too good to meet fans, I doubt that's the case most of the time and you do not know their reasons for leaving the other way.

The backstage doorman's job is to protect the actors. He is perfectly allowed to lie to you if it will protect an actor.

Also, remember that Idina and Taye were receiving death threats recently. Would you want to go out that stage door into a huge crowd when you had received letters threatening you or your husband's life? Updated On: 12/30/04 at 03:05 PM
