Think of the shows she has done:
Rent
Aida
Lippa's WIld Party
WIcked
Very accessible scores that are real easy to follow on first listen, and aren't too complicated.

It's true. I will actually be very interested to see how she does with something like this. I mean, I'm a fan of hers. But I think that (especially with Wicked) she got through a lot of it by screaming. I'm hoping we'll see (or hear, for those of us far away) another side of her.
That reminds me, is there any talk of it being recorded? I mean, SFANW only had 28 performances and they recorded that.
It's hard to say if it'll be recorded or not. With Rca Victor no longer recording shows like they used to (the reason we have so many short runs on disc), and a lot of the other labels abandoning cast recordings. LaChiusa's last NYC score didn't get recorded. Cast recordings are expensive and a hard sale. Ghostlight or PsClassics would have to pick it up. I imagine, with Menzel attached, there will be some interest, but it will all depend on how the show turns out.
I hope it does.
As I wrote in the little Idina thread (O/T):
MJLC is one of my favorite composers. And I discovered him through Idina (heard her Life of the Party, got Lippa's TWP, got LC's, preferred the latter, listened to his other stuff, etc)...
So it's kind of nice to see her doing one of his shows.
I have to say again, I agree with Bobby in hoping the tweens don't invade this show. At her concert on Friday, it seemed like 90% of the conversations went like this.....
"Oh my God, Idina is like, totally way better than the mall, I mean duh! Oh my God, I bet Idina would totally rock as a cheerleader, but she would like totally steal my boyfriend and Oh my God, Idina just drank water, do you think she'll sing from Wicked? Maybe she'll paint her face green and Oh my God, do you think if we run when she's saying goodnight she'll sign our playbills and tee shirts and hats and programs and scores and wicked teddybears and rent cds? Like...I told daddy that we have to see her show at the Public every night and i'm like totally gonna scream when she comes out EVERY time she comes out and i'm gonna totally run to the stage door when it ends, and like do you think Shosh will be there?"
I hope LaChuisa and Kudish know what they're in for.....

Okay that was a bit much.
Don't forget the endlessly talented Mary Testa who is also in the cast.

That's nuts, Princeton. I can't imagine what it was like.
He wasjust giving an account of his experience PJ. If Idina fans don't want to be made fun of perhaps they should conduct themselves in a classier way.
I like Idina well enough. I loved her in Wicked. But the screaming girls make me stay away.
I just feel bad that Idina is a talented woman whom I fear will never escape her role in Wicked. And yes, there were 14 year old girls sobbing in the lobby because she didn't sign autographs. And whenever Idina asked for audience participation, a mother usually chimed in with "My daughter sings your songs all day long!" or "My daughter loves you!" I don't think it's exactly what Idina was looking for.

No, I was referring to the fans' actions. Not what Princeton said, Bobby.
I don't think it's just Wicked. I think she created a chain that's hard to escape.
Rent
then
Aida
then
Wicked
3 shows that tweens love. It's a lethal trio that she may never be able to escape!
See What I Wanna See is a clear attempt escape the "tween idol" rep she's gotten.
Oh good Pj. Sorry I misread.

For the record, I'm not sure about her acting chops, but if she were to do Evita, I'd love to hear it. I'd by the cast recording just to hear her renditions of "Buenos Aires" and "A New Argentina."
Her voice would actually suit the role of Evita very well. It's a marathon of a role though, and many who have done the role have lost their voice. And I'd rather her do it than Madonna whose voice would go out after the first song.

Michael John is one of the most easy going and good natured people I know. I think he would be happy to have as many people as he can at his shows.
Although, as usual, it's some mature material. Murder, cheating, etc.
But I'm sure Michael John would rather have the median age in the house be somewhat higher than 16.
That was over the top and rather scary Princeton. "Princeton, I'm surprised at you..."
I haven't been getting real answers from people at the Public Theater but the general gist of what I get from everyone who works there is that the tickets will be available early to mid September--whatever the heck that means.
I plan to get tickets. I don't plan to wear my 'Popular' shirt. I certainly don't expect Idina to start belting Defying Gravity, nor to 'greenify' herself. (But I thought the common consensus was that Ms. Menzel is hotter when she isn't green.) I'm very interested in what LaChuisa has in store for all of us, since the only thing I've heard by him is the Wild Party. Not to mention Roshomon set in NYC, now that already kicks ass! I certainly want to hear a different side to Idina, and I'm sure I'll be wowed by the other talent. So count me in as someone who is going to bring the median age down. :P
Audra does a song from the show on her latest cd if anyone wants to hear what the score may sound like.
What song Bobby?
"See What I Wanna See" on Audra's Happy Songs cd.
I'm afraid that this will be the general reaction every night on Lafayette Street after SEE WHAT I WANNA SEE:
"She didn't fly! SHE. DIDN'T. FLY. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"
Okaaaay...I now need a credit card, a 30 second clip on itunes is very depriving.
*sigh* When will the tween bashing ever end? (I know, it won't. It's a f-ing vicious cycle.)
I think it's necessary that I write crappy poem about this when I'm bored...I have a line!
"Idina didn't fly,
I think I'm gonna cry!"

While I love the fact that Idina's doing something new, I have no clue what the show is about. Anyone care to enlighten me? Link? Something?
Thanks. :)
An exerpt from Theatermania.com..."A park. A thief. A priest. A psychic. A miracle. A lie. The truth. From a mysterious murder in Central Park to a tragic Tuesday in September, New York stories of faith, loss and redemption are explored in See What I Want to See, a new musical with a contemporary, lush score." It's based on Rashomon, a 1950's movie based on stories by Ryunosuke Akutagawa. It sticks in the main concept that the truth is subjective, etc. I for one don't know wnything specific from the previous run.

Sounds intriguing.
If only I can find a way to get there. :-/
