Seeing a broadway show

My choir and i are going to NY this winter (dec. 26-jan.2). I am very excited b/c we are seeing spamalot, piazza, spelling bee, and sweeny todd. There is an extra night we have avaliable and there are 3 show options. (DRS is not one of them b/c it is too risque...don't worry, i will find a way out of that.) The show options are hairspray, rent, and phantom of the opera. I have seen all three before and was just wondering what the shape of the casts were...who you like better, what cast has the best vibe.

So what show should i see?

well it looks like other than the roles of mark and roger, rent is almost the same cast as last year...

What about Forbidden Broadway (Off Broadway)?

If you're seeing that many shows, I'm sure you'd get a lot out if it. It's always a hoot!

re: Seeing a broadway show

Sometimes FB is really hard to book for a large group. We tried to look into it for slightly less than 200 kids + chaperones in the old Fairbanks we would end up with SRO (which there was none of)

Since you are seeing 4 shows, may I suggest that you consider seeing the NYC Ballet's THE NUTCRACKER at Lincoln Center? You may have seen this ballet before, but no other production comes close to the stunning sets, costumes and choreography. Besides, the Christmas tree grows from 10' to 40' in front of your very eyes. It's a memorable production and I strongly recommend it.

I've recently seen both Rent and Hairspray, and I would have to recommend Rent. The Hairspray cast was just "ok" to me, and the Rent cast was probably the second-favorite I've seen, next to the original cast. Even though so many of them have been in it for so long, there is still a great energy to the show. And well...I just love Cary Shields.

My three friends and I who went have seen it a combined total of about twenty times (13 for me) and we all said it was one of our favorite casts.

re: Seeing a broadway show

Guys, the person said there were ONLY three options that they could get tickets to...no off-broadway play or ballet. Out of those three options, I'd say go with RENT but I might be biased re: Seeing a broadway show

"...But Kungurtseva reels off multiple fouettes and the tape is stopped so she can take a bow. The Jester, an abomination introduced to Swan Lake in Soviet times, extorts applause from the audience. The cuts don't help the storytelling, the production is bare bones and they go for the '50s-style happy ending. The audience cheers like mad at the end. It's the Russian ballet, after all..."
