The Broadway production was fun. The tour was not as good. The only major problem I had with the show was the book trying to tie all the stories together with the Cat in the Hat as narrator and Emcee. I think it would have worked better as a review, keeping the stories more isolated. The audience really seemed to enjoy it, though. And Janine LaManna was brilliant. I thought she should have been nominated for the Tony.

I believe that the 1st National Tour was quite better than the Broadway production. They cut unneseccary musical numbers, added more audience participation (which was quite funny!), extended the cell phone bit, had better backdrops, modifed some scenes by adding flying (It's Possible!!), and changed many other things.

The most appreciated change was the backdrop for the "pile of clovers." Instead of having pink lights, it was a backdrop with thousands of clovers painted on, and the stage was COVERED with them as well, instead of just a few piles. It added not only to the humor, but to the admiration for Horton as well.

Drake English was the best Jojo I have seen. Quite a remarkable kid.

I prefer the Broadway Gertrude McFuzz, but the Tour actress was not bad at all.

The tour improved dramatically. I wish they would have had THAT production on Broadway - it would have had a longer run then.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

the one thing that really bothered me about the tour was the costumes that changed. I realli liked the William Ivy Long broadway costumes much better. In the tour, the Sour Kangaroo looked like she came back from a hospital or nersing home and the little kangaroo looked like a child's sock puppet that was cheaply made and a lot of the other 1's as well =P! however i realli enjoyed Richard Miron's performace as jojo. ~l8r`

I love the fact that the Sour Kangaroo no longer had to have the puppet on her hand the entire time - but dispised the sock puppet - which IS what it was.

I love the music! I haven't seen the show, but I think it would be a blast. It's one of my favorite shows to listen to with my girls. I love that they kept it so childlike and I think Michelle Pawk's performance on the recording is one of the most lively ones I've ever heard.

Talk about an upbeat musical! That's one of the best...I haven't seen it on stage, but the Original Recording is great. :)
