"He told me that It is not convincing with male actors because males sorta fight back and forth like they do in the play. He said that you could see the same thing that happens in that show at any Wall Street office. "
-What? It's not convincing because you can see it in real life? Wouldn't that make it more realistic? I am so confused? I have read a lot of criticism about GG/GR but I don't think I've ever heard it called unconvincing. To some degree GG/GR... and a lot of Mamet from that period... is about male roles in society... and male agression and all of that... I guess there could be some post modern argument made by casting women in the roles (as is done when the genders are reversed in H2S)... but it would really seem to betray the point and purpose of the play.
Anybody here familiar with former Chicago actress/cabaret performer Alexandra Billings? She's transgendered and is regularly cast in straight female roles here in Chicago. Most recently she was Mayzie in a children's version of Suessical... and it raised nary an eyebrow.

"I HATE when they do this!!! Like Whoopie Goldberg as Pseudolis in "Forum" (Haven`t seen it but) WHAT WERE THEY THINKIG!?!?! I think after Nathan left no one really wanted to see it and they tried to rely on star power. They not only changed the sex but they also changed the race!!!"
Funny... I can't find the lines in the script where it says Pseudolus is white.

Most contracts with theatrical licensing houses now specifically state that you can not change the gender of any character in the show.
This largely came about after a Dallas production of ANYTHING GOES cast a male as Reno Sweeney (not in drag) and it totally changed the connotation of ALL those songs: "You're the Top," "Blow Gabriel Blow," etc.
gypsy with a stage father played by harvey fierstein! he'd love it!
I sure wouldn't want to hear his voice after about ten minutes of trying to sing those songs.
Anyone else think Brian Charles Rooney as Elphaba would be an interesting idea?

Sebastian Bach as Mimi Marquez.
He's a bit tall but his voice would sound amazing.
