Six Feet Under/Awake and Sing's Lauren Ambrose and Two Gentlemen of Verona star Oscar Isaac will play, Juliet and Romeo, in the upcoming Shakespeare in the Park staging of ROMEO and JULIET, to be directed by Michael Grief.
The 2nd show of the season will be A Midsummer Night's Dream, to be directed by Daniel Sullivan.
It is in honor of the 40th anniversary of the Summer of Love.

I was hoping with Romeo and Juliet they would have cast younger. Too bad they couldn't get Daniel Radcliffe. I think Oscar Isaac is the wrong choice for Romeo. He's too mature looking.
Oscar Isaac is wrong not just because he's too mature looking, but also because he's really not that good of an actor.
The second production was supposed to feature Brian Dennehy. Who would he play in Midsummer? Bottom?

Unless he backed out....he has had a busy year thus far.
It wouldn't surprise me if he did. He was supposed to do Lear (from what I heard) and was quite bummed because Eustis decided to go with the Kline version downtown.
What about Loves Labours Lost...semi unknown but it has the word Love in it.
Love's Labours Lost is one of Shakespeare's poorest plays. That's why it's rarely produced.

I also heard that he was supposed to do Lear, but Eustis opted for Kline.
He made the wrong decision. Dennehy would've owned that s*it.
hmm...that is probably why my school choose it for their spirng show...haha.

Kline would have, as well, under any other circumstance.
After seeing Talk Radio today, I'd love to see Liev Schreiber do Lear....of course, in 40 years. When I told him that at the stage door following the show, he laughed and said "I'm not ready for the old guy parts yet!"
Liev will be a great Lear in due time.
Hasanyone heard anything about Midsummer casting yet?

No, but add Camryn Manheim and Christopher Evan Welch to the R&J list.
I'm quite excited about seeing ROMEO & JULIET, from what I hear Lauren Ambrose's audition was fantastic. It'll be my first time seeing her on stage...can't wait.
