Did anyone see She Loves Me at Caramoor this weekend? Really wish I could have made it up, but I'd love to hear what anyone who saw it thought. That cast sounds like a drea,.

It does seem perfectly cast. So nice to see Georg and Amalia played by more average-looking people who might actually be convincing as "lonely hearts" as opposed to say, Kate Baldwin, lol.

I saw the show on Sunday at 4 PM. It was magical. Santino Fontana gave a similar portrayal to the one he's giving in Cinderella--goofy adorable leading man. He was PERFECT in this role. very impressive that he could do two shows at the same time--everyone was completely off-book and the show was staged to a great degree. When he sang the song "She Loves Me" he brought the house down.

I was less impressed with Aexandra Silber as Amalia. Usually a performer who starts off well wins you over during the performance, but I found I liked her less and less as the evening wore on. She's just not a strong actress and I didn't believe she really cared for him. The audience seemed to really warm to her, I will say that.

Everyone else was just great. The actor who played the headwaiter won a Tony in the role some two decades ago, and he was very funny. All of the supporting players were individually and collectively terrific.

It was a great, memorable show.I am so glad I went.

Interesting about Silber, I've never actually seen her perform live but I've always thought her acting was quite strong from what I have seen/heard. Do you think it was just the wrong role for her or is she a weak actress?

I'll have to disagree with RJ about Alexandra Silber. I thought she was excellent throughout, and her rendition of "Ice Cream" was a standout.

Overall, I thought the show was very nicely done, but the performance conditions at the 4:00 show were not ideal. It had been a very hot day, and it was uncomfortably so under the tent. I felt the sound got lost somewhat in the space, and the music didn't sound strong or sharp enough.

I hand a splendid time, thank you, and regret that anyone missed this performance.

If you heard a "Bravo" after 'Will He Like Me?' (the hardest song to act in the show), that was me.

She Loves Me- Caramoor

"She Loves Me" was the first time that Caramoor has staged a full Broadway musical in its 68 years, it's also the musical that turned me on to musical theater -- because of my junior high school production. I write about Caramoor, the production at I.S. 70, and about my meeting with the teacher/director who started it all.
At the very bottom is a video of Alexandra Silber singing "Ice Cream."

I thought Santino was the standout. I think he was far better in this than in Cinderella, but to be fair, the role of George has more meat. He was delightful.
