I think her voice is fine, i dont think she is the best singer in the world but her voice is strong. Again, remember this is before the cast have even gone in to reharsals yet.

Apparently she sounded very good at the press launch, just very different to the way its been played before.

This is the theatre...people won't remotely notice/care that Sheridan is on the 'wrong' side of 30 from the audience. If Kristin Chenoweth can play a teenager, I'm sure Sheridan will be ok.

But anyway, yeah I do think her wig was a bit too blonde and fake, and that pink dress looks very mumsy, but she seems extremely likeable and capable in the role.

I agree, though in truth, both Sheridan and Laura Bell Bundy are 29. Sheridan's actually two months younger. I didn't think Laura looked any younger on stage and in the MTV close-ups, all I saw was massive doses of Botox. Not really what I think of when I think of a girl entering her first semester in college, but then, it's not like casting the role of a late-teen/early-twenties girl (or boy, for that matter) with someone older is unique to the stage or screen. If they used a 19 or 20 year-old girl to play Elle, it would be a surprising anomaly. What works about Sheridan is her personality. She' got the comedic chops for the role which is probably going to more than make up for her minor vocal weaknesses (and let's face it, Laura had her vocal weaknesses as well).

I liked Laura Bell Bundy's performance, but her voice was so painfully nasal. Sheridan Smith's voice is refreshing to me because it's NOT as high-pitched and nasal.

I wonder if they'll release this recording as an iTunes single or whatnot..I imagine so.

*uses software to record it now :P*

I wonder if they'll go all out for a cast recording :-/, I suppose if they are trying to make a profit no.
Give me claws and a hunch, just away from this bunch.

Sheridan has a good voice and I think she'll nail the role of Elle, she's a fab comic actress and she's the best out of all the actors in the sitcom Two Pints of Lagers and a Packet of Crisps.

I have a CD of the NYT production of Bugsy Malone which she was in before she was famous and her voice was much stronger and I think smoking has played a part in it.

Mister Matt- Elle is in Law School. She graduated college. That means she is around 22. Not a huge difference from 19 in numbers, but in maturity and (sometimes) looks it can be a very big difference.

Now that that is out of the way, why anyone would want to see a show after that video is beyond me.

Well, I went to the press launch a few days ago and... I can tell you guys that Sheridan is NOT the one you should be worried about! Sheridan sounded great in all the stuff she sang though she didn't belt out that long last note and they went straight to this music video. Also the rest of the cast was quite good (not sure about Duncan cuz he wasn't there!) but I thought Jill who was Paulette, though looked the part, didn't sound great. Well, she sang well, all very safe, but when you've heard Orfeh, you cannot go back!

I suspect that was supposed to be a rhetorical question (albeit without any question mark), but I'll answer it with another question anyway: If you think Sheridan Smith looks "*fat*" in that dress then what hope has any woman got of getting through life without feeling belittled for being a perfectly normal size and shape?

(And just for the record, I met Sheridan Smith this week and she is ANYTHING but fat - she's been working out like a demon to prepare for this role and she looked fabulous!)

She is not fat at all, but I agree that the dress isn't flattering to her figure. It makes her look kind of top-heavy.

If the comment had been "that dress isn't flattering to her figure" I probably wouldn't even have bothered responding - but it blatantly wasn't, so I'm not sure who you're agreeing with?

Some people on this thread sound *thick* - I don't mean to say they definitely are as thick as two short planks, but that's definitely how they come across to me. And don't get me started on their lack of empathy!

But hey, seeing as it's only my opinion, I guess no-one has any right to take offence huh? I'm only calling it as I see it, so don't really expect much comeback from hereonin.... <:-/
