AuditioningWaitress, hopefully we can be stranded on the same island.

You have 3 of my 5 on their and two that were very close cuts.

If nothing else, we could perform those shows to pass the time. re: Ship wrecked with only 5 broadway cast recordings

There are too many great soundtracks out there to narrow it down to 5, but if I could only have just 1 cast recording with me it would be the original Man of LaMancha soundtrack. The sound of Richard Kiley singing Dulcinea is one of the most beautiful moments in all of Broadway history.

If you dont have anything to play those CD cast albums on than what good is it to have your favorite 5 with you?

I think a good thread would be:
Ship wrecked with only 5 broadway scores to burn to keep you warm at night!

You know what, I think I'll do it!

Patronus thank you for pointing out the distinction between cast recording & soundtracks to me. Slip ups like that will get me banned from the Broadway souvenir gift shop in Shubert Alley.

Les Miserables
Phantom of the Opera (the Toronto version with Colm Wilkinson)
1776
The Music Man
the last might be Putting It Together (so I get the best of Sondheim) or How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying or Carousel or A Chorus Line

or

I might pick 5 horrible cast albums just so I don't get complacent and will want to really get off the island.

This is very difficult since I enjoy so many different shows. Perhaps I should just make mixes of my favorite songs from all the shows I love : )

LES MISERABLES (complete recording on First Night)
SWEENEY TODD (original Broadway cast on RCA)
DREAMGIRLS (original Broadway cast on Decca)
RENT (original Broadway cast on Dreamworks)
THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA (original Broadway cast on Nonesuch)

re: Ship wrecked with only 5 broadway cast recordings

Ragtime
Sweeney Todd (OBC)
Miss Saigon (CSR)
Les Miserables (CSR)
Dreamgirls (Concert)

Some of these aren't necessarily the best recordings of these shows but they are the most complete... it will allow me to re-live these productions using starfish and shells on coconut shell stages.
