Who knows if Broadway.com is right when they report that Martin Short will be starring in a one-man show next season with songs by everybody's favorite Hairspray songwriters? I know people either love or hate short, but I'm in the former camp. A solo outing could be great. And he seems like a decent chap, I must say.

NY Times' On Stage and Off column also reports that Martin Short will be coming in April, in his yet unnamed show (although two of the potential titles are "Stroke Me Lady Fame: Martin Short on Broadway" or "If I Saved, I Wouldn't Be Here: Martin Short on Broadway").

There's no doubt that Martin Short is a great stage talent. His performances in THE GOODBYE GIRL, PROMISES PROMISES and LITTLE ME were stellar. The problem is, he needs good material and a strong director to keep him in check. Look at his TV work--it's been absolutely miserable in most cases. The reason was weak writing and absolutely no one to reign him in.

DP is right. Martin can be amazingly funny but needs to have some boundaries. His characters are clever but some moments just go too far.
With a good director and good material he will have a wonderful show.

He is fantastic. As obviously scripted as GLICK was, it had me on the floor.

Posted: 6/4/04 at 9:36amthere is no truth to the rumor that Marty will be opening this one-man-show (not a 'play with music' as reported by The New York Times) with a recreation of my PICK-A-LITTLE video Updated On: 6/4/04 at 09:36 AM

Posted: 6/4/04 at 10:41amDammit! No Pick-a-Little parody? I was dying to see Martin play me in my cameo. I was hoping to become as beloved as Ed Grimley. Oh, I'm doomed as doomed can be, you know.
