How would you say Shoshana Differs from Idina as Elphaba.

She makes Elphaba seem more conservative and reserved. Idina made her shine, right from her entrance. She was much louder and naturally stoodout. However, Shoshana will build up that confidence with time. It took Jenn a while, and now she's perfect in the role. In a few months I'm sure Shoshana will settle in as well.
Overall, she just needs to become more powerful, but i was pretty impressed with that I saw.

I was just wondering, does Shoshana get that loud cheer when she enters?
When JLT first took over, she got a few claps. Now everyone cheers.

She got a HUGE cheer on her first night (almost a minute)
I liked how she tried to make Elphaba more innocent, and more wide-eyed towards the wizard.

Its very refreshing to get a new perspective on Elphaba. Most of us are so used to Idina's portrayal that we start comparing Shoshana's take on the character to Idina's. I've heard a few clips of Shoshana as Elphaba and she is very different from Idina but I really love what she does with Elphaba.
I wanted to get something that an "ex"-junkie like him would really appreciate and cherish....it's a brick of heroin shaped like a heart.

I didnt see Idina, but i saw Shoshana and Eden.
They were different...i cant chose who i liked better, they were both amazing in their own awesome ways!

i think shoshana plays the role innocent as well. she seems more childish, i guess that's the word. Idina plays the role more maturely.
A dancer might dream to see her name in lights and mean it,
but all she really dreams is to make someone
else feel the way she did when she first saw a dancer.

I think Shoshana's Elphaba is a lot "younger" and more cartoonish than Idina's...more upbeat. Idina's is a much darker, more complex character.

The only problem I had with Idina's performance is that she didn't really seem like a young adult at the beginning where Shosh does.
That said Shosh still needs to figure out her own thing (and slow down those darn hands)

well, Idina is a lot older than shoshana to begin with....and her voice is very mature...
From reviews and such that compare the two, it seems like Idina tries to play Elphaba more like Maguire's Elphaba....

First of all, let me say I was staggered by the difference in character interpretation the two have. Very little is alike.
I agree with Broadwaygirl, Shoshana's portrayal was not as complex and definitely younger seeming.
It occurred to me as I was watching that some people are going to LOVE this, and some are going to HATE it. I had trouble with it, but realize it's just a taste thing.

Well, there is absolutely a contrast between her first Act and second act Elphaba. And remember, Elphaba is supposed to have a certain maturity to her character to begin with anyway.
About Shoshana's hand movements...she seems to do the same withher head. Her head and hands never stop moving...it kind of gives the impression that she's, well...acting, not "becoming" the character. I think if she could shake that habit, it would make her portrayal feel much more natural because she doesn't appear to be coming from a real place by over-doing the gestures.

I'm glad to hear that Shoshana is not playing a carbon-copy of Idina playing Elphaba
I've seen Idina and Eden play the role and I really loved how they both were completely different but brought so much to the role, especially their choices for Elphaba at Shiz.
Idina IMO, played Elphaba at Shiz like (and perhaps this isn't the best comparrison) Daria. She was smart, knew it, and didn't try to impress the other students. This made her scene at the Oz Dust Ballroom very powerful because you could tell it was her first attempt at trying to fit in.
Eden played young Elphaba more innocently. She was the annoying geeky type of smart, but you loved her because you could tell she was trying very hard to fit in. The party scene also proved powerful but instead you realized that when she danced by herself, you saw this as the beginning of Elphaba accepting herself, which lead Galinda to accept her, which helped their friendship grow and ultimately prepped for her ultimatum: And if I'm flying solo, at least I'm flying free.

well I dont know of any official recordings! even if its pulled from the sound board you need permission to use that kind of thing.
