Didn't Brian McKnight's label sign her or something?

Brian signed her to his own label 'Fortress of Solitude'.

I read that a while ago but I thought she was still hoping to be signed by a "big" label? Not sure how the record industry works..

shoshana sent in a journal to her website saying that she did a showcase for record execs in nyc. this leads me back to my question on the industry. if she is signed to brian mcknight's label, is she/can she still look to get a "bigger" deal?

All I ask of Shoshana is that when she releases her album...which I will be buying...I BEG of her to PLEASE put her rendition of "Defying Gravity" on her album...she sung the role the BEST in my opinion.

First I HIGHLY doubt there will be any broadway on her first album. After reading her journal I do feel she will always in some way personally be connected with Broadway. However I have a feeling she will want to keep her recording career and her Broadway career seperate. In her journal she stated that she is flying out to LA to work on her album and hopes to have a end of the year release.

(Martha Graham from a letter to Agnes de Mille) "There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening That is translated through you into action, And because there is only one of you in all time, This expression is unique. If you block it, It will never exist through any other medium And be lost. The world will never have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is, Nor how valuable it is, Nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours, clearly and directly, To keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep open and aware Directly to the urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open. No artist is pleased. There is no satisfaction whatever at any time. There is only a queer, divine dissatisfaction, A blessed unrest that keeps us marching And makes us more alive than others."

First, Shoshana DEFINITELY will not have Defying Gravity on her album because she said in the past that she would have no Broadway songs at all on it. Second, Defying Gravity is a copyrighted song owned by someone other than Shoshana, and therefore she'd have to get permission to use it...I doubt she'd be willing to go through the trouble, that's assuming that the copyright owner would even agree to license it to her.

However, I too would love if she put DG on her album, but it won't happen unfortunately. update on website

Shouldn't this go on the "off-topic" board since Bean has given up Broadway and her album will not feature any Broadway songs?

Should we be knitpicking what board this should go on?

Defying Gravity is the title of Debbie Graviette's (sp?) new album and a terrible version is sung on it. I'm sure Shoshana could get the rights, but she will not be putting any broadway on her album. I believe she wants to try to go as mainstream pop/R&B as possible.
