Any tips? We are coming to nyc in August to take my 9year old daughter for the first time. We are surprising her with tickets to Music man and probably one other show. We currently have tickets in mezzanine on 2nd row left center. We are debating spending the big bucks for seats in center orchestra. There are a couple seats left on front two rows. Any thoughts on if we should switch seats?

I'd stay where you are....NOT worth the extra money...especially if you are going to a second show. My favorite seats is ANY theater is front mezz. (Note: depending on your daughter's size....ask the usher about a booster seat for her....then you don't have to worry if a tall person is in front of her. I'd grab one early, and if you end up NOT using it, you can give it back.)

Consider taking her to see Come From Away, a terrific show. She might like SIX, too - but there are a lot of sex jokes that are not subtle - and that might not be in your family's comfort level. Off broadway seeing Little Shop of Horrors could be a treat as well.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

You might consider a third show: the GAZZILION BUBBLE SHOW. It's an hour long and absolutely delightful. My 3 grandchildren like seeing it every time they're in town. They have staggered performances so you can fit it in between other shows.

Skip Funny Girl....its really not going to be interesting for most 9 year olds(nor many people here!)

Hadestown is terrific, maybe a tad sophisticated?

If money is not an issue, I would suggest getting center orchestra close to the front, maybe second row? I sat in front & 4th rows in center orchestra and it’s quite an enjoyable view. Be sure to get her a booster seat. She’ll enjoy not just watching the spectacle but also seeing the joy on the faces of the kid performers (although I hear the original kids cast may be replaced soon?).

I have sat front row for this show and loved it. In fact, I just booked front row seats to see it again. The stage isn't too high, and the nice thing about being front row is you don't have to worry about seeing over anyone's head. I am not sure I would sit dead center front row (only) however as the conductor's head does pop up and it could be distracting. So I would sit slightly off center if I was in the front row.

P.S. Beetlejuice is also a great suggestion for kids. Show is a lot of fun.

If you want to make your 9 y.o. a theatre kid for life, move to the front orchestra. Compared to other Broadway theatres, the center mezzanine at the Winter Garden is far from the stage. An adult might appreciate the distance and seeing the bigger picture and staging, but a child will be more engaged up close.
