should I see the movie first?
Geez, guys like, I don't know. I'm sort of at a crossroads here y'know. I need like some guidance 'cuz like I can't make up my own mind. Could you guys please make it up for me. It would really be a big help, 'cuz like I'm pschizo that way.
If you're being serious, not necessarily. The plot is actually a little more confusing in the movie than it is on stage, but the story is basically the same. You certainly won't miss anything in the show if you've not seen the movie.
If you were kidding, well, you know, I'm just a happy idiot.
You dont need to watch the movie - actually so much sugar right in a row might do a person in. See the musical first and then if you feel you need to watch the movie after, do so.
To add... the movie feels like a bad acid trip. It's really trippy, you really don't need to bother. The show is less trippy, and if nothing else, Raúl is hot. But it is fun.
Personally, I would skip both.
You should totally see the stage show first. There's nothing like it. It is so powerful, and the energy it exudes is just...amazing. But if you can't get to see it, see the movie.
Oy...I was about to start this for The Producers - but now it'll seem superfluous...
Jan Maxwell is worth the price of admission, in my opinion.
My opinion nothing of that show is worth 100 bucks, not even 50. I'm glad I student rushed it for 26 bucks and even then was not sure it's worth it. Unless you like having chitty chitty bang bang stuck in your head for WEEKS!
It's still stuck in my head.
Get the $20 seats! (They are being sold for $52 on weekends)
The Balcony there is almost always half empty and you can move to the front row! (The view is amazing!)
bobby still walking around singing it? I thankfully have put it out of my memory
Not singing it anymore, just have it drilled in my head, and when there's a lull it comes in to play.

The movie is okay, but even as a kid I thought of it as a second-rate Mary Poppins.
hahahaha I should buy you the cast recording so you can listen to it more
But Marquise, you do jest, yes? I sense some sarcasm?
Or are all those "like"s for real?
:0)
I really want to see this...I think seeing the AMAZING Raul would be worth the $100. How can you not go gaagaa over his vibrato.
Pretty sure he wrote this tongue-in-cheek. I think I remember reading that he loves the movie.

No, because someone started a thread asking if they should see the Rent movie or show first.
I doubt it'll happen but they should record the new cast. They really are the only reason to see the show.
Seeing the movie first is like asking "Should I see the film version of "Phantom of the Opera" before seeing the stage production?". When I was in NY last month I saw eight musicals and surprisingly found "Chitty" one of the more enjoyable shows I saw. The movie is dreadful though and I can't see viewing it beforehand necessary. My opinion....skip the movie since the book is the most problematic part of the show. The problem being that it's not hard to follow but overall a bore. At least the show has some great stage effects and is truly beautiful visually. There are also some fine performances.
Sarcasm really goes over some of your heads don't it?
For those of you who "got it": GOLD STAR.
