I heard about a movie at the Tribeca Film Festival that was a documentary about getting shows to Broadway and all the way to the Tony's. I think some of the featured shows were Avenue Q, Taboo and Wicked. Does any one know anything about this?
I saw it at Tribeca, and absolutely loved it. If you're interested, I think I bookmarked my thread about it. At the screening, they said they were looking into a DVD release, and there was an article concerning that a few weeks later, but I don't think there's been much news since.
Thank you so much, Emcee. However,I couldn't find the link to your thread.
Anyone else got info on this Documentary?
oh thanks Emcee, I'd love to read anything you have about it
Wow. It sounds fascinating. Maybe it'll turn up on PBS!
eep, sorry about that! Here you go:

Emcee, I feel the same way about it! I absolutley ADORED it! I too, saw it at the Tribeca Film Festival where Dori mentioned a DVD release.
Very interesting and informative film, the cast of Avenue Q came off very well, hopefully a DVD will happen quickly, with lot's of extras!!
ok so what type of documentary is it?
is this like the american musical one, with a narrator and it goes back into clips, sort of like a historical information film? or is it more á la michael moore let's-follow-people around-and-see-what-they-do?
does it have a point or message, or is it just show&tell?
More like cameras following people around to see what they do. The film-makers were given sort of all-access permission to rehearsals and things. And, for example, the Avenue Q creators had given home videos of writing sessions and old readings.
o i see...i'll definetely be looking out for this one then.
Anyone we can write to to encourage the release of the film on DVD?
Is there any news on this? Dvd release? Distribution deal?
I saw it at Tribeca as well. Very well done film. It chronicles AVENUE Q, WICKED, TABOO, and CAROLINE, OR CHANGE from the beginning of the creative process to the Tony Awards.
Oh, and Jeff Marx's dad has a few very funny recurring appearances throughout.
I heard it may have a limited release in theatres this September actually.
