Posted: 8/29/08 at 8:53amcrc03772 - The high school really did Phantom. It was chosen as one of the test theatres to see if the show could be done by community theatres/schools. There was a big article about it a year or so ago. There was about 6 or 7 different theatres aroudn the country that were selected to perform this show and one of them was a high school in my area. True story.
If you hide from yourself, be someone else for someone else's sake, that would be the greatest mistake - bare

Pretty much the decision has already been made by the creative teams for the shows that shouldn't be done by a community theatre or a high school - they simply don't make the licensing available, which means we will thankfully never see amateur productions of:
MOVIN' OUT
CONTACT
STARLIGHT EXPRESS
THE MAGIC SHOW
etc. etc. etc.
I don't know why people don't think RENT shouldn't be done in a community theatre. I bet there will be some community theatres that have better productions of RENT than the Broadway production.
