I hear the Mis put on a killer Les Mis, though.

Well, then you start getting into the chromatic solfedge notes. When will they ever get their break?
And don't even get me started on the Phas
Did you guys ever stop to think just how deeply DEEPLY nerdy and specific theatre humour is?

I felt this as more choir humor, which is nerdier.

The Lion King.
No community theater could ever make that show as magical as the professional production is.
Can you IMAGINE a community theater doing "Sunset Blvd"? The car chase alone...
Choir humor is VERY nerdy.
It's nowhere near as nerdy as Band humor. And after 4 years in my college marching band, I should know!

True. Choir nerds look at band people and laugh. They're like the cosplayers of the music world.

How about Miss Saigon or Phantom? What high school can afford a chandelier or a helicopter.
You would be very surprised.

Absolutely. Some schools are obscenely decadent.

AVE Q would not work without top notch puppets and manipulators. If there were not professionals behing it there would just be flapping mouths and no real "character" to the puppets.
The people in the Broadway and tour shows go through intensive training with the Jim Henson people. That's why the show works.

I would not want to see Oh! Calcutta done by a community theater....
OH look - there's my next door neighbor! please excuse me while I go vomit.
What's all this badmouthing of sos?
What's wrong with a needle pulling thread?
Just wait till your pants split!
There was already a high school that did "Phantom of the Opera" near where I live. I believe it was the first high school in the country to produce that show. Apparently, they actually did order in a huge chandelier and all the set. But keep in mind, this school has a lot of money!!
Phantom of the Opera, really? Most improbable that a high school is doing it. For one, the rights are not even available. For two, ALW would be raping them for all the money they got if they even attempted this...

Well, you make a good point. Las are really the worst, just following Sos around everywhere.
Any show put on by a god awful community theatre/high school is my worst nightmare.
WICKED 'could' work if done by a very talented and well off bunch.
However, the reality is that its going to be mutilated beyond belief with wannabes screeching through the score.
'Popular' no doubt will be incredibly cringe worthy.
Little Mermaid.
Dreamgirls, as done by a community theatre or high school from, say Scarsdale.
