re: Showgirls the Musical...who would be your dream cast?

I agree with you Brody, I would love to see Gina and Elizabeth on stage. Apparently Gina will be involved with the show behind the scenes:

Segueing now to a tale of women in sexually powerful jobs, Gershon — coincidentally fresh from catching the stage show Showgirls, The Best Movie Ever Made. Ever! — reveals that yes, she is developing, as a writer and director, an off-Broadway musical adaptation of that which some will argue was not the best movie ever made. "[Showgirls scribe] Joe Eszterhas and I were at this 10th-anniversary thing in Vegas, and he [mentioned it to the crowd], and everyone went crazy!" Gershon reports with a laugh. "So there's a built-in audience."

Both actresses are keen and totally receptive to the cult following the film has garnered. Gina has great stories of her run on Broadway in the revival of CABARET -- her dresser would quote lines from the film to her EVERY day. re: Showgirls the Musical...who would be your dream cast?

She even discusses the film to some length on one of the many incredible IFC's Dinner for Five episodes. She knew the film would be what it turned-out while she was in full Crystal costume, waiting to make her entrance on stage in one of her production numbers. The reality of what she got herself into hit her right then and there. re: Showgirls the Musical...who would be your dream cast?

I love 'em both. Just love 'em!

As a gay man, I must say this is the best movie ever made. nad i can't wait for the stage show.

The fact that neither of them (gershon and berkley) let that movie beat them down is inspiring.

Jessica Rush could do it hands down. I did Cinderella with her this summer and the second I put her wig on, we both said that she looked just like Elizabeth Berkley.

NomiMalone2, where did you come from? Gina Gershon would never waste her time doing theater. If you're pretty, and you've even had mediocre success in Hollywood, you keep at it 'til you wring that Hollywood rag dry. Then, you sit around in your mansion and play with your money and your boys, be important for a bit; THEN if you ever feel like getting up, maybe you ponder the possibility of doing theater. Berkley blew her career in Hollywood by doing Showgirls (not that anyone predicted a bright future for her post-"Saved By the Bell"), and she finally decided to try theater. She's had a few stints here in the city (SLY FOX, HURLYBURLY, THE CARTELLS), and she actually kind of has a shot here. I don't think she'd blow that on recreating the role that destroyed her chances in Hollywood in the first place.

Gina's background started on stage. Here is her basic Playbill Bio at the time she was playing Sally Bowles in the Broadway Revival of CABARET (at Studio 54):

GINA GERSHON (Performer). On stage: Camille, The Substance of Fire, Nahawatai. Gershon, a founding member of Naked Angels, has appeared in several productions with the company. Film credits: Showgirls, Bound (GLAAD Media Award, Best Film), Guinevere, I'm Losing You, Palmetto, Face/Off, Pretty In Pink, Cocktail, Red Heat, City of Hope, The Player, Joey Breaker, Out for Justice, This World Then the Fireworks, Touch. TV: leading role in David E. Kelley's "Snoops," "Legalese," Nancy Sinatra in "Sinatra," "The Days and Nights of Molly Dodd," "Miss Rose White," "Beyond the Past." Born in L.A., Gershon received a B.A. from NYU.

Hey Foster. New to the Broadwayworld community so I thought I'd post this and see how this all works. :)

Wow TheatreDiva! I literally did a double take! She looks amazingly like Berkely!

Brody, did you have a chance to see Gina in Cabaret? How was she? What did you think of her singing? I, like you am a big fan as well. :)

re: Showgirls the Musical...who would be your dream cast?

Loved her in CABARET. I was forunate to have seen her in the revival (always in Table 135) several times (my ex had to see this show EVERY time we were in NYC).

Sally Bowles isn't supposed to be a great singer, so all the actresses worked this into their performances. If the actress didn't possess great pipes, she was spared because her bad singing would work with the character. If she was a good singer, then she would purposely limit her range in order to fit the character. Hope all this made sense. This is the reason why so many actresses did the show -- it really didn't require a 'good' singing voice.

All that aside -- Gina was spectacular. Her British was somewhat weak, but passable and at least consistant. Her 'scenes' worked and she added some little visual touches to her appearance which were powerful for Sally's "Cabaret" number.

So much so, that actresses who followed in the role after her incorporated these visual touches for Sall's "Cabaret" appearance as well.

I'd like to see Elizabeth do Chicago.
"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter
